Is the Merlin Annual Pass Worth It? Which Pass Should You Choose in 2026?

If you’re planning more than one UK attraction visit this year, you’ve probably wondered: is the Merlin Annual Pass worth it? I just booked our third Merlin attraction of the year, so I sat down to do the maths…

With access to over 20 of the UK’s biggest attractions, including some of our favourites such as LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, Alton Towers Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, SEA LIFE London Aquarium and The London Eye, the Merlin Annual pass may be more expensive than a theme park day out, but it’s often a fantastic deal.

So is it actually worth the money? And more importantly, if the Merlin Annual Pass is worth it as the right choice for you, which Merlin Annual Pass should you choose?

Quick Answer: Is The Merlin Annual Pass Worth It?

For most families, the Merlin Annual pass is well worth the money, BUT, only if you visit three or more Merlin attractions per year.

If you only plan one or two days out, it’s not the right choice for you. And if you prefer to book weekend breaks, staying at the Legoland Hotel or the Alton Towers hotel and enjoying a mini-break, then the Merlin Annual Pass probably isn’t worth buying for you either.

But you regularly visit theme parks or attractions, whether alone or with your family, it can save you hundreds of pounds.

What is included in the Merlin Annual Pass?

A Merlin Pass gives entry to 20+ attractions across the UK, including:

• LEGOLAND Windsor Resort
• Alton Towers Resort
• Thorpe Park
• Chessington World of Adventures Resort
• SEA LIFE London Aquarium
• The London Dungeon
• Warwick Castle
• Madame Tussauds London
• Shrek’s Adventure
• Smaller SEA LIFE Aquariums across the UK

That means it covers both:

• big-ticket theme parks
• rainy day city attractions

I was surprised to realise just how many huge UK attractions are owned and operated by Merlin, meaning that the Merlin Annual Pass poses even better value than I expected.

Merlin Annual Pass Prices in 2026

There are 3 different levels of Merlin Annual Pass, with each offering different perks, and different numbers of access days. I’ve outlined the prices and features below to help you choose which is right for you:

How Many Visits to Break Even?

This is the most important question, and the main question I asked myself when deciding if a Merlin Annual Pass would be a good choice for our family.

A typical Merlin attraction now costs around £35–£45 per person. For a family of four like mine, that means that one day out can easily cost: £140–£180+

If we use these figures then that means:

Essential Merlin Annual Pass (£139)

If you spend £139 on the Essential Merlin Annual Pass then you will break even if you visit between 3-4 Merlin attractions in a 12 month period

If you visit any more than that (for example you want to make one visit to Legoland, Chessington, Alton Towers, and have a day in London exploring the Merlin attractions) then the pass will pose excellent value.

Gold Merlin Annual Pass (£239)

The Gold Merlin Annual Pass is priced at £239, and so you will break even after 5-6 attraction visits. If you live close to a Merlin Attraction then this is definitely the pass I would choose! You can pop in and out whenever you want, and travel further afield to explore the other attractions too.

The main benefit of the Gold Pass over the Basic Pass is that it included free car parking. With standard car parking at most Merlin attractions costing £12 per visit, this is a great perk.

Platinum Merlin Annual Pass (£299)

The Platinum Merlin Annual Pass is priced at £299 and you would need to make 6-7 attraction visits to break even. Even for this most costly pass, you still only need to visit a Merlin attraction once every two months to break even, showing just how good value they are.

The Platinum Merlin Annual Pass also includes 4 free family and friends tickets a year, which is the one perk you won’t get with other passes.

Which Merlin Annual Pass Should You Choose?

Choose Essential if:

 you’ll visit at least 3–4 times
 you don’t need perks like shopping discounts or free parking
 you want the cheapest option

This is the best budget option, and most appealing because it has the lowest upfront cost.

Choose Gold if:

 you’ll visit multiple theme parks
 you want free parking
 you buy food onsite
 you want discounts

This is usually the best value pass, and because it includes that free car parking, you can pack a picnic and enjoy as many ‘no cost’ days out as you like, all year long. For most families, I’d recommend Gold.

Choose Platinum if:

 you visit constantly
 you hate exclusion dates
 you want free friend tickets
 you use fastrack regularly

In my opinion this pass is best for real theme park enthusiasts. I would personally opt for the gold level and save a little money.

What Are The Pros Of Having A Merlin Annual Pass

• The biggest pro is that a Merlin Annual Pass can save a lot of money
• It encourages more family days out (and more family bonding time) without worrying about the expense
• The Merlin Annual Pass works across multiple attractions, so you won’t get bored visiting the sameplace again and again
• You get free parking if you choose a Gold or Platinum Merlin Annual Pass
• Gold and platinum Passes also come with 20% off food and shopping in-park AND 20% off VIP experiences too

Our Honest Verdict: Is The Merlin Annual Pass Worth It?

For most families? yes! But only if you’re a family that like to explore theme parks.

If you visit places like LEGOLAND Windsor Resort more than once, the annual pass actually pays for itself surprisingly quickly.

If you’re only doing one theme park this year, skip it. But if you love family days out and use Merlin attractions regularly, it’s one of the easiest ways to save money. We’ve already spent a weekend in Legoland Windsor and a day in London exploring all of the Merlin attractions so far this year, and with hindsight, we’d have saved a fortune if we’d invested in the pass.
