How to Buy Legoland Windsor Tickets
The first thing you need to know is NEVER ever buy tickets at the gate. This doesn’t just apply to Legoland Windsor, but to all theme parks. Walk-up tickets are significantly more expensive than buying tickets online in advance. And during busy dates, walk-up tickets aren’t always available on the gate.
Buying tickets in advance of your visit (even if you only buy them the day before you travel) will usually save you between £10-25 per person.
Ticket prices for Legoland Windsor are dynamic, meaning they vary depending on the day and the time of year your travel. Weekends, school holidays, and summer dates cost more than off-season, mid-week tickets. If you’re able to visit Legoland Windsor during midweek in term time, you’ll usually find the lowest prices and shortest queues.

We just returned from a weekend visit (spending 28th February/1st March in the park) and it was the quietest visit to Legoland Windsor I’ve ever experienced!

Arrive Early (My Most Important Legoland Tip)
We have visited Legoland Windsor on quiet days, busy days, and jam-packed school holidays. And if there’s one thing that I think will make your Legoland day better, it’s arriving early. The queues at the main gate to the park start forming around an hour before the park actually opens, and often to alleviate these crowds, the gates are opened early so that you can move down into the park and start queuing for your chosen ride. Being inside the park at rope drop will let you get on at least one ride before the main crowds arrive.
My advice? Head straight to the ride your kids want to ride most that tend to have the longest waits: for most families, this will be The Flight of the Skylion and Minifigure Speedway.

Use The Legoland App to Track Queue Times
Download the Legoland App before you visit: you’ll use it so much more than you think! The Legoland App allows you to:
- Check live queue times
- View ride height requirements
- Navigate the park (you can even track a path from ride to ride, which is super handy)
- Find restaurants and toilets quickly when you need them
The Legoland App is ideal if you’re happy to have a dynamic plan to make the best of your day. It makes it so much easier to constantly track queue times, and then avoid long queues.
Bring a Water Bottle and Snacks
We always bring a picnic when we visit Legoland Windsor. Food inside the park can be expensive, especially for families and the quality isn’t brilliant. Think £6 for a portion of fries or £3.50 for a bottle of coke.
While Legoland Windsor has plenty of restaurants and snack stands, bringing a reusable water bottle and small snacks will save you both money and queue time. Nothing pacifies a bored kid in a queue quite like a tasty snack!
If you do decide to buy your lunch in the park then the most popular dining options include:
- Bricks Family Restaurant
- Pirate’s Burger Kitchen
- City Walk Pizza and Pasta (an all you can eat buffet, and our personal favourite choice)
TIP: Queues in the restaurants can be as long as the queues for the rides at lunchtime. The best way to avoid this is to try eating before 12pm or after 2pm.
Don’t Skip Miniland
One of the most impressive areas of the park is Miniland, a huge Lego model world featuring famous landmarks built from millions of Lego bricks. We all love Miniland and it’s a great place to explore as a family: the more time you spend here, the more you’ll appreciate the intricacies and the attention to detail in the builds.
In Miniland you’ll see miniature versions of:
- London landmarks
- European cities
- Famous buildings and transport systems
It’s a great place to slow down for a bit if your kids need a break from the rides, and with so many benches dotted throughout Miniland, it’s even a great place to stop for your picnic lunch!

Bring Your Swimwear and a Change of Clothes
Several Legoland attractions involve water, especially during the summer months. These include:
- Drench towers
- Splash safari
- Pirate log flume
While Drench towers and Splash safari only open during the summer months, these water attractions will leave your kids soaking wet, and most children change into swimwear to enjoy these. Pack swimsuits, a spare t shirt, or even a lightweight change of clothes to wear afterwards and make teveryone is comfortable.
Plan Your Ride Strategy
Legoland Windsor is a big park and it’s quite spread out. It’s also built on a hill, making it feel even more spread out. This needs a little more consideration than you might think while planning your route around the park.
The park is revolved around different themed lands, including:
- Lego City
- Knight’s Kingdom
- Pirate Shores
- Lego Mythica
- Miniland
A good strategy is to work your way around the park in one direction rather than zig-zagging back and forth. This will reduce you walking time and help you to cover more rides durin your day out.
Is Legoland Windsor Worth Visiting?
We have had so many amazing family adventures in Legolnad Windsor. For families with younger children, Legoland Windsor really is one of the best theme parks in the UK.
The rides are specifically designed for kids, the Lego theming is fantastic throughout the whole park, and there’s plenty to do here not only for a full day but even for a short weekend break at the park. With a little planning, and a few smart strategies, you can actually avoid the biggest queues and make the most of your Legoland day out.

Legoland Windsor is officially best suited for children aged 3-12. There are Duplo rides to suit smaller children though, so children from 2 years old will find attractions to enjoy. Older kids and adults will still enjoy many of the rides, and while my 13 year old finds the rides in the park tame, he still loves exploring Miniland and the builds in the park.
How Long Do You Need At Legoland Windsor?
Most families spend one full day at the park. But if you want to ride everything, then two days would be ideal. Is Legoland Windsor Suitable For Toddlers?
Yes! We have been visiting Legoland Windsor since our youngest was just a toddler, and we’ve always found plenty of the boys to do whatever their age. There are rides in the park with low or no height requirements that everyone can ride, and a Duplo land with small rides for toddlers as well as a Duplo play area specifically designed for younger children.
