When we visited Legoland Billund for a long weekend, we LOVED every minute of it. We also visit Legoland Windsor at least once a year, and we have done since the boys were Duplo-mad toddlers But which Legoland Park is best? In the battle of the most famous Legoland parks, who would win?

We’ve written this post based on our first-hand experience as well as our comprehensive research. We’re huge Lego fans and both Legoland parks are great. The fact that we keep visiting again and again is proof of that!

Legoland Windsor vs Legoland Billund. Which is the Best Legoland Park

Comparing Legoland Windsor and Legoland Billund

There are many similarities between Legoland Windsor and Legoland Billund. Both parks have a similar number of rides and many of these are identical. Both have the iconic driving school attraction, and both have Minilands – wonderful replica worlds constructed from bricks.

But there are many key differences between the two parks too. Legoland Windsor is a much smaller park than Legoland Billund. You don’t notice this in terms of the number of rides (there are actually more rides in Legoland Windsor) but you do notice and appreciate the space that Legoland Billund offers. What’s more, Legoland Billund is built on flat ground whilst Legoland Windsor is constructed on a hill, meaning that Legoland Billund is much more accessibility friendly and easier to navigate with a buggy too.

🎠Comparing Legoland Rides

There are 55 rides in Legoland Windsor compared to 50 rides in Legoland Billund, so in a straight number race, Windsor wins!

Many of the rides in Legoland Billund and Legoland Windsor are similar, but there are many unique rides too! If your kids are older, or enjoy thrill rides then you’ll find more of these at Legoland Billund than you will in Legoland Windsor. I think this played a huge role in why the boys loved Billund so much!

The driving school at Legoland Billund

If your kids love the Lego driving school (I’m yet to meet a kid that doesn’t!) then you need to know that in Legoland Windsor this is a free attraction and the rides last for around 5 minutes (queues and wait times can be long). But contrast, in Legoland Billund this is an extra-charge attraction costing DKK 99 per person. You get your driving license and lanyard included in this price. You pre-book this on the day, and don’t have to queue or wait: you’re given a time slot. The experience is much longer too, lasting 30 minutes. Our boys LOVED this, much preferring it to the shorter ride at Legoland Windsor.

If you’re visiting during the summer months then Legoland Windsor has the edge with its Drench Towers. This is the largest water play structure in the UK, and the boys always make a beeline here for our summer trips so they can cool off, get soaking wet, and play on the slides. There’s a smaller Duplo Safari splash pad for younger kids here too making this by far our favourite UK theme park to visit in the summer holidays.

But the best ride in any Legoland park i’ve visited? The Ice Pilot School in Legoland Billund. This is a robot mechanical arm turned roller coaster. You design your own plane ride using the touch scrieen, then you get to ride it! We were thrown around like ragdolls and we loved every minute.

🍔Comparing Legoland Food

Theme park food is never usually anything to get excited about. But there are a few dishes in both Legland Parks that stick out for all the right reasons. Let’s start with Legoland Windsor!

LEGOLAND Windsor offers a variety of dining options across the park, but in our experience, quality and value can vary. Our FAVOURITE restaurant in Legoland Windsor is:

City Walk Pizza & Pasta – This all-you-can-eat buffet is by far the best-value option in the park. Fresh pizzas, pasta dishes, salad bar, and unlimited soft drinks make it a solid choice for families looking to refuel without breaking the bank. Our boys love pizza, so they really fill up here, which saves us money on other meals too

Wondering what you should skip? The burgers! While there are several burger stands and fast food outlets scattered throughout the park, we’ve found the burgers to be underwhelming — often bland and overpriced for the portion size.

On the subject of overpriced? The ice creams are excellent, but £6 per Mr Whippy cone does make my bank manager weep a little.

📝 Tip: Consider eating early or late to avoid peak queues at food outlets, especially during school holidays and weekends.

LEGOLAND Billund offers a superior food experience, in our opinion, with thoughtful theming, better quality, and more local flavor. Our favourite meal was at the Burger House – Home to some of the best burgers we’ve had in a theme park! Juicy patties, flavourful toppings, and served with their signature LEGO brick-shaped fries that kids absolutely love.

Lego chocolates in Legoland Billund

The LEGO-themed pastry and coffee shop near the entrance is not to be missed. Expect beautiful cakes, chocolate LEGO bricks, and artisan coffee — a perfect break from the rides. The boys loved the little chocolate Lego bricks so much that they made us stop for one every single time we walked past!

💶Comparing Legoland Costs

To compare Legoland Windsor and Legoland Billund fairly, I have to remove the airfare element: you will need to buy flights to visit Legoland Billund, and we all know that they don’t come cheap. This means that, in real terms, even though almost every aspect of Legoland Windsor is more expensive, it will still be a cheaper day out for UK travellers.

But in the spirit of fairness, I have to point out that ticket prices, food and drinks, and the added extras are all much cheaper in Billund than they are in Windsor. The tickets to Legoland Billund are just £34.89 each, meaning that they’re cheaper than even many regional theme parks in the UK.

When it comes to souvenirs, both Legoland parks are created equally. They both charge the same standard RRP for the Lego products, have big stores, exclusive merchandise, and features such as designing your own minifigure or having your name put on a brick. So if you’re looking for a shopping spree, it doesn’t matter which Legoland park you choose!

Which Legoland Is Best For Your Family?

If you’re not already aware, we’re based in the UK. So I definitely know that for British readers, Legoland Windsor is the closest and most convenient Legoland park to visit. So if you’re looking for ease of access, or just want to take a quick day trip with your kids, then Legoland Windsor is an obvious choice. That’s why this is the Legoland Park we’ve visited the most!

But something being convenient doesn’t necessarily make it the best! And if you’re looking to fully immerse yourself in the world of Lego, and you’re looking for more immersive theming, shorter queue times, and a park that truly encompasses a love of Lego, then we took a family poll and we all agree that Legoland Billund is best.

The Big Shop at Legoland Windsor

Legoland Billund is the Lego lovers park. The rides are themed around iconic play sets (such as the pirate boat ride, or the vikings area), the Miniland area here is much bigger and much more comprehensive. It’s almost like this park was built as a tribute to all things Lego first, and a conventional theme park second.

Although I’m aware you do have to factor in airfare to get to Legoland Billund too, we also felt that Legoland Billund was better value. The accommodation, ticket prices, and food were all much more affordable there.

FAQs

Is Legoland Billund Worth The Travel?

Honestly? Yes it really is worth travelling to experience Legoland Billund, particularly if you’re a die-hard Lego fan. This is the original Legoland Park in the home of Lego: it’s like the Mecca of Lego Fans.

We spent two days in Billund, combining a day in Legoland Billund with a visit to the Lego House. The chance to do both of these made the journey well worth it. You could spend much longer here: Billund is advertised as the town of children, and packed full of fun things to see and do.

Can You Do Legoland Windsor in One Day?

Absolutely! We’ve visited for one day trips, and we’ve visited for two days (with an overnight stay in a local hotel). The key to doing Legoland Windsor is to pick the half a dozen rides you don’t want to miss: we all choose one ‘must do’ ride each so everyone’s happy. And we always save at least an hour at the end of the day to explore Miniland. It’s a family favourite!

You won’t get on all 50 rides and attractions in one day (you wouldn’t get on them all in two days!) but you can have a great day out in Legoland Windsor in one day without feeling that you’ve missed out.

Are The Rides The Same In Both Parks?

No! If you’ve visited one park, you can still visit the other and have a completely unique experience. Although there are similarities, many of the rides stand alone.

What Age Is Best For Legoland?

Honestly I think Legoland is a rare universal theme park that will appeal to kids of all ages (provided they like Lego, of course!) For Toddlers, both Legoland Billund and Legoland Windsor have Duplo lands with small, age appropriate rides that are a lot of fun. From here the rides are great for school-aged kids in Windsor and there are a couple of real thrill rides in Billund which was a lovely surprise!

Our oldest son first went to Legoland as a toddler in a buggy and loved it. He’s now 12, and is already planning a Legoland trip for his 13th birthday party! Legoland is for all Lego lovers.

Where Can I Buy Legoland Billund Tickets?

Legoland Billund is one of the most affordable Legoland parks, with tickets priced at just £34.85 per person. We found that cheap was the cheapest option to buy these tickets.
