Best Tokyo Disney Ticket By Traveller Type
The right Tokyo Disney ticket for you will depend on factors such as who you’re travelling with, how long you’re spending in Japan, and your budget. Tokyo Disney operates dynamic pricing, so weekday and low season tickets are the most affordable.
First-time family visitors: 2 days (one day in each park)
Flying visit: 1 day ticket (choose your preferred park)
Disney super fans: 3 – 4 days (this should give you time to see everything)
Toddlers: Tokyo Disneyland is the best park to choose
Older kids and teens: Tokyo DisneySea is unique and has more thrill rides
Budget travellers: Opt for a cheaper weekday 1 day ticket

Do You Need to Buy Tokyo Disney Tickets in Advance?
The short answer to this question is yes. Tokyo Disney tickets must be purchased in advance, and same-day ticket sales are very limited.
Unlike Disneyland Paris or Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disney does not sell tickets at the gate. You used to be able to buy tickets at the gate, but now all of these ticket booths are closed, and visitors are directed to buy tickets online (if these are available) On busy days (which is most days) they aren’t, and entry is restricted to guests with pre-purchased tickets only.
For families travelling to Japan, I strongly recommend booking your Tokyo Disney tickets before you arrive in Japan, especially if you are visiting during:
- School holidays
- Cherry blossom season (late March–early April)
- Summer holidays
- Halloween, Christmas or New Year (big seasonal events)
Where to Buy Tokyo Disney Tickets (Official Site vs Klook)
There are two main ways to buy Tokyo Disney tickets: either from the official website or from a partner site like Klook. We ALWAYS buy our tickets with Klook (we have since our first trip) and here I break down why:
1. Official Tokyo Disney Resort Website
- Requires account creation (which is more confusing than you might think!)
- Payment issues are common with non-Japanese cards (This is actually why we tried Klook in the first place: the Tokyo Disney Resort website wouldn’t accept our UK debit card, no matter how many times we tried!)
- The website can be slow or sell out quickly
2. Buy Tokyo Disney Tickets on Klook (Recommended)
This is the option we use and recommend for families, because it’s worked perfectly for us every time.

NOTE: Another thing that makes Tokyo Disney tickets different to other Disney park tickets is that you can’t buy them as soon as you start planning your trip. Tokyo Disney Ticket Prices (Updated Guide)
Tokyo Disney uses a variable pricing system, meaning ticket prices change depending on the day you visit. Weekdays are typically cheaper than weekends, with the exception of key public holidays. Juniors aged between 11-17 pay a little less. Children aged between 4-11 pay a further reduced rate. Children under 4 enter for free.

Tokyo Disneyland vs Tokyo DisneySea: Which Park Should You Choose?
We love the Tokyo Disney parks and we always carve time out of our trip to visit both:our next trip is no exception, we’ll be visiting Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea for a day each in March. But I appreciate that not everyone has the time (or the inclination) for two Disney days, or buying two sets of Tokyo Disney tickets. If you’re choosing just one park, here’s a quick family-focused breakdown:
Tokyo Disneyland
- Classic Disney rides and characters
- Better for younger children. Check out our Disney ride height guide to see which park has the rides best suited to your kids.
- Familiar attractions like Pooh, Monsters Inc, and Beauty and the Beast
Tokyo DisneySea
- Unique to Japan
- Incredible theming
- Slightly better for older kids and adults
If you’re travelling with younger children or first-time Disney visitors, Tokyo Disneyland is usually the best choice. But Tokyo DisneySea is the best park for adults and older kids (and my favourite, best Disney park in the world, for the record!)

Can You Use Tokyo Disney Tickets With Premier Access?
This is the question that can throw some people off: you can use Premier Access (which enables you to skip ride queues) in Tokyo Disney, but you can’t buy Tokyo Disney tickets that include this.
All Tokyo Disney tickets are the same, Premier Access is not included in your standard ticket.Premier Access allows you to skip queues for certain popular rides (and if you can afford it I really recommend it, rather than standing in line for an hour or more!) and must be purchased inside the park via the app on the day of your visit. This means that geting Premier Acess is never guarenteed: you have to see what slots are available when you arrive in the park.
You’ll still need a valid Tokyo Disney ticket to enter the park first.
How to Enter Tokyo Disney Using Mobile Tickets
If you buy your Tokyo Disney tickets on Klook then you’ll get a mobile ticket sent straight to your phone. To use this to enter the park:
- You’ll receive a QR code (this will be on your ticket)
- Scan this directly at the park entrance, there is a scanner next to each entry gate
- No need to exchange tickets
TOP TIP: I recommend downloading screenshots of your tickets in case of weak Wi-Fi. With so many people trying to get online all at the same time, the Wi-fi doesn’t tend to be very good around the park entrances.

Do Tokyo Disney Tickets Sell Out?
Yes, Tokyo Disney tickets can and do sell out regularly , especially at weekends and public holidays. If you want to visit Tokyo Disney during peak periods then I recommend booking your tickets 60 days before you arrive, which is when tickets are released
Can I Buy Tokyo Disney Tickets At The Gate?
No, you can no longer buy Tokyo Disney tickets at the gate. All of the ticket booths at the park have been removed. You will find a sign directing you to buy your tickets online if you turn up on the day without a ticket, but these are subject to availability, and on the day tickets ae often not available.
Final Tips Before Booking Tokyo Disney Tickets
- Book tickets as soon as your travel dates are confirmed (If booking with 60 days or less before you travel) or what I do is to set a reminder 60 days out so that I can book my tickets and get the dates I want
- Choose weekdays where possible for lower prices and shorter queues
- Screenshot your tickets before arriving at the park, in case of bad internet connection problems
- Arrive early. Tokyo Disney rope drop is serious business, and some people arrive as early as 2 hours (or more!) before the park actually opens.
