Eurocamp Sables D’Or: A Complete Review of the BEST Eurocamp in France For Older Kids
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; we love Eurocamp! We take a Eurocamp holiday almost every summer, and we love every minute. It’s perfect for family bonding, exploring, and trying new things. It also has the benefit of being totally affordable!
We tend not to fly in the summer holidays because flights are so expensive: in fact, we spent two weeks on a road trip in France visiting 2 Eurocamps and 2 hotels, and our accomodation cost less than 4 peak season flights to Spain!

But the thing about Eurocamps is there are blooming hundreds of them! And finding the right one can be a real chore….which is where this review comes in!
If you’re looking for the perfect Eurocamp in France for families with older kids, let me save you some searching — Eurocamp Sables D’Or is it. Honestly, we weren’t expecting to love this site as much as we did. it was everything we wanted from a summer holiday: exciting, safe, relaxing for parents, and packed with activities for the kids.
Here’s our full review of Eurocamp Sables D’Or and why we think it’s the best Eurocamp in France for older kids.

The Location of Eurocamp Sables D’Or
Eurocamp Sables D’Or is located in Cap d’Agde, in the Languedoc region of southern France. This part of France is known for its sunny weather, Mediterranean beaches, and lively family-friendly resorts.
Sables D’Or literally translates to mean golden sands in French, so you won’t be surprised to hear that the site is close to golden sandy beaches, local shops, and restaurants — but honestly, once you’re inside, you’ll find it hard to leave.
The site itself is enormous, but the Eurocamp area of the site is located in the ‘Beach’ area of the layout, meaning its just a couple of minutes walk to the beautiful beach front AND there is a private gate entrance for Sables D’Or guests to get in and out.
Our Accommodation At Sables D’Or

We stayed in one of Eurocamp’s modern 3 bedroom mobile homes, and it was:
- Spacious and clean – plenty of room for a family of four.
- Peaceful setting – tucked away in green surroundings so you still felt like you were escaping the busy resort atmosphere.
- Self-catering friendly – the kitchen had everything we needed (including a dishwater, which we don’t even have at home) but there were also plenty of on-site food options and to be honest we didn’t actually cook here once.
- Perfect for relaxing – With an L shaped outdoor sofa (where we played card games in the evenings) plus another sofa outside AND indoor and outdoor dining tables, there was so many places for us to relax and be together, or have our own place if we needed it.
It struck the right balance of comfort and simplicity, so we could relax but still spend most of our time outdoors.

The Epic Playgrounds At Sables D’Or
One of the first things our kids ran to was the main playground (there are actually 3 playgrounds on site) and wow — it didn’t disappoint.
Unlike many campsites where the play areas are very young-child focused (including La Marine, which is the site we were at before this one) Sables D’Or has really thought about older kids and tweens. And they have their own space where they aren’t worried about accidentally trampling on smaller kids when they duck underfoot.

There were climbing structures, bigger slides, and plenty of space for games. It was the perfect place for our two to burn off some energy, and even our oldest was impressed as well as being happy to find a playground that actually catered to him
The Main Event: The Pirate Themed Water Park
Now for the highlight — the pirate themed water park. The water park for the site is actually a stand alone water park called Pirates World: it’s so good/big, that off site visitors can pay to come and spend the day here.

If you have kids aged 8+, this is where they’ll want to spend all their time. Mine managed to stay here from opening at 10am to closing at 7.45pm one day!
The aqua park is absolutely massive, with:
- 6 twisting water slides (half of which come out of a pirate ship structure)
- A wave pool
- Lazy river sections for downtime
- Splash zones for younger kids (ideal if you’re travelling with a mix of ages)

Our boys were completely in their element: i’ve mentioned here before that they’re such water babies. We literally spent entire days here, and they still weren’t ready to leave when closing time came. It’s no exaggeration to say this was the best pool complex we’ve ever had at a Eurocamp (with the exception, perhaps, of Duinrell in Holland)
Another thing I really liked about this place is that there were loads of sunbeds: so it was a place parents could relax and get some downtime too. We spent A LOT of the day playing with the boys, but when we needed a rest we camped out on beds by the lazy river, knowing that they would be save, and that they couldn’t float by without us seeing them!

I do have a couple of practical notes about the water parks.
👉 Boys WILL need Speedos (ours wear the short style ones like this). This applies to men too (Mikes are here) and they’re REALLY strict about this! We went into the park in our regular clothes to change on site one day, and they made us show them the swimwear we would be wearing before they let us in.
👉 No rings are provided for the lazy river: you have to buy your own. They do sell these in the on site shop, but it’s much cheaper to buy them in advance (our boys are using these ones which you can buy here).

Food & Drink
On-site, there are restaurants and snack bars, making it easy to grab lunch by the pool or enjoy an evening meal without leaving the site. Prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was always family-friendly.

In the water park there is a fast food restaurant selling hot dogs, burgers, chips and pizzas (all the usual stuff!) but they also let you take your own food into the water park, so one day we took in a picnic. This worked really well, as it meant the boys could stop and snack whenever they were hungry without having to stay out the water too long (we use this picnic bag/cooler to keep everything fresh). There is also a couple of snack bars selling crepes, ice creams etc. We all had the crepes and they were delicious; my all-time favourite French snack!
There is a fancier pirate themed restaurant where we ate one night. I had a delicious mozzerella and tomato salad to start followed by a locally sourced salmon fillet.
All the boys had steaks. It was a little pricey but I would recommend it for a treat one night as the food and the atmosphere were so good.

On site there is also a pizzera (pizzas were between 11-15 euros depending on the topics you chose) and we got 2 of these to take back to our cabin one night for a delicious and quick dinner. You could also order fries, burgers, and even whole roasted chickens from this spot.
Finally, there is an on site bakery. Baguettes, pain au chocolat and croissant are all priced at 1.20 euros each, and so this is a great spot to stop for breakfast (pro tip: if your kids have them, pack scooters!) Scooting to the bakery with their dad to get breakfast every morning -and practice ordering is French – is one of those little holiday experiences that my boys really love, and the scooter cuts the walk time in half).
If you fancy exploring, the nearby town has great restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy seafood, pizzas, and French favourites.
Entertainment & Extras
- Kids’ activities – There were organised activities and games, though ours were so busy in the water park and playground that we didn’t even need them.
- Evening entertainment – Family-friendly shows and music added to the lively holiday vibe, but again, by the time we were out of the pool and had had dinner, we didn’t really use this as we were happy to play games in our mobile home and spend some time together.
- Shops on site – These are handy for essentials, but we also made use of larger supermarkets nearby to save some money. There is a big Lidl about a 5 minute drive away (and it’s next door to the best bakery i’ve visited in all my times to France, as an added bonus!)
Why It’s the Best Eurocamp for Older Kids
We’ve stayed in more than a few Eurocamps now, but Sables D’Or stands out because it’s tailored to families with older children. I didn’t have to tell my 12 year old he was too big for anything (which sadly seems to be a recurring theme in lots of places where bigger boys are considered too big to still play, even though they’re still kids!)
- The playground is actually exciting for 8–12 year olds, not just toddlers. In fact, I think kids even older would still love it here!
- The water park is outstanding and kept our kids happy for hours.
- The safe, friendly atmosphere gave them the independence they’re craving at this age.
- Parents can relax, knowing their kids are entertained and secure within the site.
It’s rare to find a campsite that ticks so many boxes, but Eurocamp Sables D’Or did exactly that. In fact, although we’re in full swing of prep for our next trip to Japan, the boys have already asked if they can go back to this water park again.
Final Thoughts
If you’re planning a Eurocamp holiday in France and have older kids, put Sables D’Or at the top of your list. From the huge water park to the brilliant playground and the peaceful accommodation, it gave us exactly the kind of family holiday we’d been hoping for.
Our children are already asking to go back — and honestly, so are we.
👉Tip: Eurocamp holidays sell out quickly at Sables D’Or, especially in peak summer, so it’s worth booking as early as possible to secure your dates. I’ve popped the booking link here.
