Tokyo Disney Sea is a theme park unlike any other. It’s truly magical, and I’m not ashamed to say that watching the awe in my boys eyes as they took a gondola ride around the park’s iconic volcano, I got tears in my eyes.

And honestly, the Tokyo Disney Sea rides are iconic. Whilst you can find Disneyland Parks in Tokyo, France, Hong Kong and America, you can’t find a DisneySea park anywhere else in the world. This is the park where you’ll find Duffy Bear, every conceivable type of water transportation, and the best Tower of Terror in the world.
But as well as boasting outstanding theming , unique character meets, and some truly exceptional scenery, Tokyo DisneySea is also home to some of the best Disney rides we’ve ever experienced. So I thought it would be fun to share our top seven rides in Tokyo DisneySea, as well as other top tips like where to get the best photos in the park!

The Seven Best Rides At Tokyo DisneySea
Before we dive into the rides, if you haven’t already booked your DisneySea tickets yet, I always recommend using Klook. My discount code THATMUMTRAVEL5KLOOK will get you an exclusive extra discount.

Now let’s check out those seven epic rides:
7. Raging Spirits
Raging Spirits is widely considered to be the best roller coaster on Disney property. It looks amazing! And the structure is so well themed, with fire erupting from the site of the ride on a regular basis as well as water pouring down the site. This is everything you image a haunted temple in the jungle would look like.

So why did this only make 7th place on my list? Frankly, because I still haven’t ridden it! Raging Spirits has an inversion (loop) which my oldest son isn’t keen on and my thrill seeking youngest son wasn’t tall enough to ride on our first visit.
Even though I’m a roller coaster junkie, we decided to stick together and give it a miss. But I would love to ride Raging Spirits, and from appearance alone, it looks as epic as everyone says.
Raging Spirits height limit: You need to be over 117cm and under 195cm to ride.
Premier Access? Yes! You can buy skip the line access to this ride via the Tokyo Disney app.
6. The Tower of Terror
The Tower of Terror is a mainstay of the Disney parks – but the one in Tokyo is unlike any of the others!

This ride doesn’t have a Twillight zone theme like the ones in Florida and Paris. Instead it is a cursed hotel called the Hotel Hightower with a unique story line themed around an adventurer who steals an idol and then disappears. The setting and the design of the interior is exceptional — but don’t worry! The ride experience is pretty much exactly the same (But the Tokyo version has fewer drops than the Paris one).
Tower of Terror height restriction: 102cm
Premier Access? Yes! Although we used this and still queued for 20 minutes, so this isn’t one of the faster lines.
5. Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull
If you’re a fan of the Indiana Jones franchise then you have to ride this ride! Its an inside dark ride, and it’s inside a huge Aztec temple (pictured below) You hope on an open top jeep that tits and flips at high speeds as you race to find the crystal skull. But obstacles, fireballs, and blow darts (puffs of air) will pop up creating a feeling of real peril.

Note that this ride does have some jump-scares in it, and our youngest was very frightened in parts. So if you have more timid younger kids, that’s something to consider.
As an aside, my youngest came off this ride crying and the cast members were AMAZING with him! Checking he was OK, congratulating his bravery, and even giving him stickers. Tokyo Disney doesn’t get the praise it deserves for the quality of its team in my opinion.
Indiana Jones height limit: You must be 117cm to ride
Express pass? Yes, express pass is available for this ride.
4. Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage
A universally popular ride, Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage boasts everything you want from a Disney ride! A great song, loveable character (the tiger Chandu)and barely any queues because this is a high capicity boat ride. Think small world, but telling the story of Sinbad the Sailor.

My boys love anything Kawaii so they both fell in love with Chandu (I think we all did!) and spotting where he’s hiding in each scene is a highlight of this ride) Also, louder for those at the back, no queue times! Meaning you can walk on as many times as you like, which is a godsend on busy days.
Sinbad height limit: No height restrictions, suitable for all ages
Express pass? No! None available and none needed for this ride.
3. Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey
Our last trip to Tokyo was our first opportunity to visit Tokyo DisneySea’s new Fantasy Springs expansion. This is a visually stunning area of the park, themed in three distinctive areas: Peter Pan’s Neverland, Rapunzels tower, and Frozen’s Arandelle.

The boys favourite section of the park was (predictibly) Neverland. By far the best ride in this part of the park was Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey. The animatronics looked real, the story was great, and the ride was unexpected. I LOVED this ride.
This is a boat style ride with some dark elements (but not in a scary way).
Anna and Elsa height limit: These are no height restrictions on Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey with even young toddlers able to ride on their parents lap.
Premier Access? Yes! You can buy skip the line access to this ride via the Tokyo Disney app. But because this ride is so popular, these sell out pass so buy them as soon as you arrive in the park!
2. Toy Story Mania
If what you’re looking for is a fun, slightly competitive, family-friendly ride then you HAVE to try Toy Story Mania!
This is an interactive, 4D carnival game where you sit in carts (2 people next to each other, 4 people per cart) and wear 3d glasses, shooting at carnival type games- ring toss, shooting ducks, ball throwing, and those types of things! You get a score for how many targets you shoot and you can all compete to see who has the best score!

This is a surprisingly long ride, so it feels like good value for money. Your cart spins you from 4D screen to 4D screen, enabling you to complete all the activities. This is one ride we all wanted to ride again and again! It’s GREAT for younger kids and fun for the whole family.
Toy Story Mania height limit: There is no height limit, but you do need to be able to maintain a stable sitting position alone.
Premier Access? Yes! We rode this once with premier access and once we queued for 2 hours without it. I would always get Premier Access if it was available and you have the budget!
1. Journey To The Center of The Earth
Our favourite ride in the whole of Tokyo Disneyland? Journey to the Center of the Earth. It was fast, dark, unexpected.

This ride has immense Jules Verne overtones and you board a mine train to whizz through crystal forests, strange insect monsters, and over vibrant (slightly scary) imagery. Then (spoiler alert!) a volcano erupts, a dinosaur appears, and you do the whole ride again, but backwards!
Honestly, it was so unique and we loved every single minute of it – this is exactly what you expect the rides at Tokyo DisneySea to look like.
Journey to the Center of the Earth height limit: The height limit for Journey to the Center of the Earth is 1.17m. Children who don’t meet this height limit won’t be able to ride.
Premier Access: Yes! We used premier access and walked straight onto this ride
Plan Your Visit – Quick DisneySea Tips For Families
Tokyo DisneySea has a reputation for being the best Disney Park in the world for a reason! But there are some tips that can help you to plan your visit and make it even better, especially if you’re visiting DisneySea with your young family:

- Arrive Early. Like really early! Unless you want to walk in an hour after the park opens (which is another good strategy, provided you don’t need premier access for the bigger rides) then you should arrive at the park an hour before the gate opens. We’ve tried arriving early and arriving at park opening time, and arriving early is the best tried and tested strategy – just take something (for us – breakfast and card games) to keep your kids occupied during the wait.
- Make use of Premier Access. I’ve added the premier access availability to each ride because we used this – a lot! If you can afford it then this is the very best way to get the most out of your day. But at £10-15 per person, per ride, it can also be an expensive hobby!
- Book your tickets in advance! They aren’t always available on the gate. We use Klook for ours, and the code THATMUMTRAVEL5KLOOK will get you an additional discount.
👉 Here’s the link to check availability and book DisneySea theme park tickets
- Pack well! Depending on the season a backpack with jumpers, waterproofs, or sun protection will mean you’re always prepared! We LOVE the snacks at Tokyo DisneySea (you can read about these here) but we also always have a few snacks in our bag in case the boys are hungry in queues or waiting for the parade where we can’t easily access other food.
Family-Friendly Photo Spots and Experiences
It’s also worth noting that Tokyo Disney Sea is about so much more than the rides! It is the theming and the attention to detail that makes this park unique and special, and it’s well worth slowing down to soak all of this in.
The area of the park that will really take your breath away is Venice in the Mediterreanean Harbor. As you enter the park and see the volcano in front of you, turn left and then follow the path over the bridge to your left.

You’ll find a perfect Venetian scene where you can take photos and enjoy a gondola ride. We’ve been to Venice, and the similarity was outstanding. Please don’t miss this!
Other photo spots that are iconic and unmissable in the park include outside the Mermaid Lagoon, which is almost like the castle of the park because it is so visually spectacular and stands so tall against the rest of the area.
Next head to the SS Colombia, which is huge steamer that was just made for posing in front of.
Finally, everyone will stand directly in front of Mount Prometheus to get a photo of it – this is the castle shot of the park! But if you want a photo without the crowds and at a better angle, go down onto the dock to your left. You can walk along the dock here and get a photo without anyone else in it! (A very kind cast member took the photo below for us)

Ready To Ride?
We’re a family that loves visiting Disney parks, and Tokyo DisneySea is one of the most magical places we’ve visited as a family so far. The opportunity to meet Duffy Bear was what lured the boys to want to visit, but the rides are what keeps us coming back again and again.
To make your visit as easy as possible, don’t forget to book ahead (here’s that Klook booking link for you again) and skip the lines where you can if you can afford to. It really does make the whole experience so much easier, particularly if you only have one day in the park
Have you been to Tokyo DisneySea yet? What was your favourite ride? I’d love to hear your thoughts! (And please tell me if you’ve been on Raging Spirits! I’m so keen to ride!)
