The Best Theme Parks In The UK For Kids (Complete 2026 Guide)
Planning a family day out at a theme park is one of those core childhood memories, and a real highlight of travelling with kids. The best theme parks in the UK offer epic rides, immersive themed lands, and amazing theming. No doubt because we’re based in the UK, we spend a lot of time exploring UK theme parks, visiting dozens of different parks up and down the country, and we’ve spent years putting together this comprehensive list of the best theme parks in the UK for kids.

Whether you have thrill-seeking teenagers or younger children who would be more interested in gentle rides and character experiences, I firmly believe that the UK has some fantastic options for everyone.
This guide covers the best theme parks in the UK for kids in 2026, including parks perfect for toddlers, primary school kids, and teens.

1. LEGOLAND Windsor Resort
Best for: children aged 3–12
If you’re travelling with younger children, then I think that LEGOLAND Windsor is the best theme park in the UK for families.

One of the things that makes LEGOLAND Windsor so special is that it’s designed specifically for kids, with kid-sized rides and attractions. The park features more than 50 rides, shows and attractions built around the beloved LEGO brand. And there are so many play areas! If your kids love Lego as much as I do, they’ll spend more time in the build zones than they will in the rides anyway.
You can read our full review of LEGOLAND Windsor here: Complete Guide To Legoland Windsor 2026: Legoland Windsor Tips and Hints To Make The Most Of Your Visit!
Some of our favourite LEGOLAND highlights include:
- Minifigure Speedway (the world’s first LEGO themed duelling coaster, and my boys favourite ride in the park)
- LEGO City Driving School (The most iconic Lego ride)
- Miniland, featuring detailed LEGO models of famous landmarks. It wouldn’t be LEGOLAND without Miniland, and although not a ride, this is by far the BEST attraction in the whole park!

LEGOLAND works particularly well for families because almost every ride is designed with younger children in mind, so you won’t have to worry too much about height limits. Something that is a real concern if you have adventurous younger kids or, like me, a more petite sized adventure boy! Kids can ride independently on most of the rides from around age 6, which gives them a huge sense of adventure. And is great for parents that don’t want to ride too!
And if you want to make a weekend of it, book the Legoland Hotel, which has some of the best hotel theming in the UK right now: Legoland Windsor Hotel Review: Everything You Need To Know For First-Time Visitors

2. Chessington World of Adventures Resort
Best for: kids who love animals and rides, and want the best of both worlds!
Chessington combines a theme park, zoo and SEA LIFE centre, making it one of the most varied family attractions in the UK. Some of the animals are incredible and more impressive than you’d expect in a theme park: Think tigers, ostriches, and a whole troop of Western Lowland gorillas.

We first went to Chessington World of Adventures when the boys were toddlers because they love the Gruffalo, and wanted to ride the (at that point brand new) Grufallo ride. They loved it! And the park has really leaned into the Julia Donaldson theming, making it an attractive place to visit with toddlers and pre-schoolers. The rest of the park is perfect for children aged 5–12, with themed lands including:
- World of Jumanji
- Land of the Dragons
- Forbidden Kingdom
The standout attraction is Mandrill Mayhem, the UK’s only Jumanji roller coaster. There are some much bigger roller coasters and attractions in Chessington when compared to, say, Legoland, so this is a park I think works really well for ‘mixed age’ families. Younger kids and teens alike will find loads to keep them entertained!
And because of the mix of attractions, Chessington is ideal for families who want a full day of entertainment without constant queueing for rides. I just don’t think Chessington gets the credit it deserves!

3. Alton Towers Resort
Best for: older kids and teens
Alton Towers has a reputation for being the best theme park in the UK overall, and I think it’s a great theme park for kids too. Alton Towers is the largest theme park in the UK and a must-visit for families with thrill-seekers OR younger kids who love CBeebies. Check out: CBeebies Land Makes Alton Towers Worth Visiting With Younger Kids

If you’re kids can’t get enough of the biggest, adrenaline-seeking rides then the park is famous for its huge, record-breaking roller coasters. These include:
- The Smiler
- Wicker Man
- Oblivion
Alton Towers is a funny park, because those ‘inbetween-y aged’ kids might not find what they’re looking for, but older kids and toddlers definitely will! CBeebies Land is one of the best toddler-friendly theme park areas in Britain. My boys used to love it here so much that we made it a bi-annual pilgrimage. Here you’ll find rides themed around popular kids TV shows like:
- Postman Pat
- Hey Duggee
- Octonauts

Because the park is so large, many families choose to stay overnight at the resort. We’ve stayed overnight for their Santa Sleepover (which you can read about here) and for the February half term pirate take over (which you can read about here).

4. Paulton’s Park
Best for: Peppa Pig fans
Paultons Park has quickly become one of the most popular family theme parks in the UK thanks to Peppa Pig World. When our boys were toddlers, they thought Peppa Pig was the most important thing in the world, so of course we took trips down to Paulton’s Park for them to visit their favourite porcine friend at home.

This themed area is perfect for younger children, but honestly? Only if they love Peppa Pig! The Peppa Pig land here features play areas, the chance to meet Peppa and George, and rides including:
- Peppa’s Balloon Ride
- George’s Dinosaur Adventure
- Grandpa Pig’s Little Train
The park has expanded significantly in recent years with the addition of Tornado Springs, a beautifully themed area with family coasters. So it would work if you were travelling with pre-schoolers and school aged children too.
For families with preschool and primary-school children, Paultons Park is often considered one of the best theme parks in the UK for little kids.

5. Drayton Manor Resort
Best for: Thomas the Tank Engine fans
Drayton Manor is home to Thomas Land, one of the most popular themed areas for younger children in the UK. Just like Peppa Pig Land at Paultons Park, Thomas Land is a smaller section of the larger Drayton Manor theme park, and it’s perfect for toddlers and pre-schoolers.

Families can enjoy:
- Thomas train rides
- gentle roller coasters
- interactive play areas
The park also has a small zoo and a range of family rides, making it a great option for children under 10.

Which UK Theme Park Is Best for Your Family?
Answering the question ‘which is the best theme parks in the UK for kids’ is tricky, because kids come in all different ages, and they all have different tolerance for thrill and adventure. To help you make the right decision, I’ve put together a quick summary box:
| Age group | Best theme park |
|---|---|
| Toddlers | LEGOLAND Windsor, Paultons Park |
| Ages 5–10 | Chessington World of Adventures |
| Ages 8–12 | Alton Towers |
| Teens | Alton Towers, Thorpe Park |
| Mixed ages | Chessington World of Adventures or Alton Towers |
If you’re visiting with children of different ages, parks with a wide mix of attractions tend to work best. There is a 4 year age difference for my boys, so we always look for parks with both rides they can enjoy together AND something a little more thrilling for our oldest to enjoy too.

Final Thoughts
The UK is home to some fantastic theme parks, whether your kids love LEGO adventures, animal encounters or record-breaking roller coasters.
For younger families, LEGOLAND Windsor and Chessington are hard to beat, while Alton Towers and Thorpe Park deliver unforgettable thrills for older children and teens.
With the right planning, a theme park day can easily become one of the highlights of your family travel year.
