SEGA Joypolis Tokyo: Ultimate Guide 2025 With Review, Best Rides, Tickets, and More
What to expect at Tokyo Joypolis, how to book tickets, and the best rides at Tokyo Joypolis too!
This post was last updated on 30/06/2025 to reflect the most recent ticket prices and attraction information.
Last week I wrote about visiting the Harry Potter Studios in Tokyo during our recent trip: tickets that we’d bought our youngest son as a Christmas gift. But for our oldest son, we purchased tickets to visit Joypolis Tokyo. He loves gaming, VR, and all things SEGA, so Tokyo Joypolis was the perfect fit for him.
Tokyo Joypolis is a Tokyo indoor amusement park owned and operated by SEGA, and it’s the perfect place to visit for a gaming-obsessed kid like mine!

SEGA Joypolis has everything a gamer might need. You’ll find a mix of VR, real world ride and roller coasters, and arcade games. It’s not the only Tokyo indoor amusement park, we also visited Red in the Tokyo Tower. But I think it’s the biggest and the best for a mix aged group with universal appeal.

What To Expect At Joypolis Tokyo
Wondering what to expect at Joypolis Tokyo? This is an innovative indoor amusement park with attractions spanning over 3 levels.
You can buy an entry ticket that gives you access to all of the rides (this is what we did and what I recommend) or you can buy a slightly cheaper ticket that just gives you entry, then you pay for the rides as you go. Each ride costs between 600-2,500 yen so if you’re going to want to go on more than 2-3 rides then the inclusive passport ticket is the better option.

Neither of these tickets include access to the arcade games and claw machines that kids will inevitably want to play, so many sure you pack a pocket full of coins for these! (H ‘won’ a giant Pokemon teddy bear….but the reality is that ‘winning’ this bear cost me £40!)
You can spend the whole day here, but we only spent around 5 hours here because we had dinner reservations elsewhere. From the perspective of a not very game-y mum? This was around 3 hours too long! For the boys? It was the right amount of time, and meant they could do everything they wanted to!
On the subject of food, it’s worth mentioning that there is a cafe at Tokyo Joypolis where the service was quick and the prices affordable, but don’t expect fine dining. It’s edible, and it’s cheap, which is what you’d expect from this kind of place, which is aimed at young people, rather than foodies! We grabbed a hot dog (Sonic the Hedgehog style) and it filled a hole but it didn’t set the world on fire. As you can see from the photo below, it looked rather sad.

Where Is Tokyo Joypolis And How To Get There
Wondering how to get to Joypolis Tokyo? Don’t worry, it’s much easier than you think! Tokyo Joypolis is located in DECKS Tokyo Beach, in Odaiba.
This is one of half a dozen large malls in the Odaiba area and DECKS is also where you’ll find the Tokyo LEGO Discovery Centre. So if you want to visit more than one of Odaiba attractions in one day these two are conveniently close.
You can read a full post about one day in Odaiba with kids, the ultimate family itinerary here.
There are two main ways to get to Odaiba on public transport. The main option is to take the Yurikamome Line (a monorail line) and get off at Daiba station. This is around a 5 minute walk to Joypolis. Alternatively you can take the Rinkai line and get off at Tokyo Teleport Station. This is around a 10 minute walk to Joypolis. The option that will work best for you depends on your starting point!

Best Rides At Joypolis
Theres so much to see and do at Joypolis, which is spread over 4 floors. But the best rides at Tokyo Joypoli are the Halfpipe Tokyo and the Gekion Live Coaster. The Geikion Live Coaster is the world’s first indoor spinning coaster with a loop. And the halfpipe allows you to skateboard and as you perform in sync to music.

Because there are the most popular rides they both had the longest queues. BUT you can long onto the Joypolis app and pay for fast passes for the rides if you don’t want to stand in line. We did this for the Transformers ride and for the Halfpipe Tokyo. Halfpipe was by FAR our oldest’s favourite ride: it looks cool, and it feels amazing. But this does come with a caveat!
These rides all have a 130 cm height limit which is (rightly, for safety reasons) very strictly adhered to. Our youngest was not a happy bunny though: because although he is 9 years old, he wasn’t tall enough to ride any of these three rides.

There are some family friendly rides for all ages here. The best family friendly rides are:
- Spicy Taxi – A fun ride with up to 4 seats in a moving taxi/tuk tuk simulator and drive wildly through a crazy cityscape
- Sonic Athletics – An interactive game where you race against 7 other people on treadmills doing various athletic sports themed around Sonic characters
- Wild River – A white water rafting simulator where you sit in a moving raft and go on a wild ride!
- Pirates Plunder – This was the first ride we tried and is an shooting theatre experience as you move on rough seas.
So both boys did get to do a lot of cool stuff. But the height restrictions are something to be aware of.
While our oldest was going on the bigger rides, our youngest and I experienced all of the traditional SEGA arcade games that you’d find in a SEGA centre that you can also find in Joypolis. These are an additional charge item, not included in the main entry fee. And I near-bankrupted myself on the claw machines. But we did win the huge Pokemon teddy of his dreams, so I had one happy boy on my hands. Honestly this made his day – although carrying it around all day was not my favourite!

Joypolis Ticket Prices And Hours
We visited Tokyo Joypolis on a Sunday. My rule of thumb for all theme parks and major attractions in Tokyo is to visit on a weekday for lower crowd levels. But let’s be honest, you have to do something at the weekends!
We arrived at Tokyo Joypolis as the park was opening and this would be my main recommendation no matter what day you visit: it only gets more crowded as time goes on. The opening hours for Tokyo Joypolis depend on the day you visit and you can see the full opening hour calender here.

There are exceptions but as a general rule of thumb Joypolis opening hours are from 10am – 8pm at weekends and from 11am – 7pm on weekdays.
In terms of buying tickets for Tokyo Joypolis, I think Joypolis ticket prices are incredibly affordable! We purchased ours via Klook where the tickets are £22.30 each. BUT if you’re visiting Tokyo before the end of September then Klook curently have an offer where you can get Buy One Get One Free tickets, making each ticket just £11.15 each!!
👉 Buy these discounted Tokyo Joypolis tickets here
👉 Use the code THATMUMTRAVEL5KLOOK to get an additional 5% discount off Joypolis ticket prices and ALL all prices on Klook!
Although I am a Klook affiliate, i’m recommending this offer because these are by far the cheapest ticket prices available for visiting Tokyo Joypolis right now, and because we used this offer ourselves. I’ve written another post about this offer here.

Is Joypolis Worth Visiting
Joypolis Tokyo is one of a series of things to do in Odaiba. In fact, there are so many fun Odaiba attractions that you could spend more than one day exploring here. But SEGA Joypolis was the boys favourite of the things we did in Odaiba.
There are pros and cons of visiting. The pros are the cheap prices, the fun rides, and the diversity of things to do. The cons include the huge queues and the height restrictions (which meant our youngest who is 9 couldn’t go on a lot of the bigger and better rides).

I think to make the most of this indoor theme park you need to really love gaming. My Joypolis Tokyo review is that it’s a great place to visit for gamers, families, and it would even make a great date night destination for couples. For middle aged mums with no interest in gaming? Perhaps this isn’t the best place in Tokyo! But I loved watching my boys having fun here!
Is Odaiba Worth Visiting?
The short answer to this question is yes! Odaiba is one of the easiest and most exciting places to visit in Tokyo if you’re travelling with kids. Odaiba with kids is fun, high-octane, but it doesn’t have to break the bank.
Walking along the water (or in my kids cases running along the water) is a lovely, and free, thing to do when the sun is shining. But there are some epic activities here that don’t have to take up the whole day (or cost a lot of money) too. These include, of course, Joypolis, but you could also consider the Lego Discovery Centre or the Unko Museum which are both great for kids.
It really doesn’t matter whether you’re blowing big bucks on family-friendly attractions of buying a sando from SevenEleven and having a picnic on the beach. I think Odaiba is an amazing place to explore with kids and you should definitely add a day here to your Tokyo itinerary.
I’d love to know what do you think? Have you visited Joypolis Tokyo? Is this the sort of thing your family would love to do? Let me know your thoughts!
