Planning a visit to Universal Studios Japan with kids? Then you’re in luck, because this is one of my favourite things to write about: and one of my boys favourite places to go! But knowing the Universal Studios Japan ride heights BEFORE you go will make your trip so much more enjoyable.
Planning a trip to Universal Studios Japan is a lot of fun, but there are also some practical factors you need to consider too. And one of the most important of these is knowing the ride height requirements for Universal Studios Japan in advance. This is particularly important if you’re travelling with younger kids or if (like me) you have brave kids that want to ride everything, but happen to be smaller for their age! When we first visited Universal Studios Japan our youngest was just turned six, and we found there were quite a few rides he couldn’t go on. I wish I’d known this in advance!

I love having all the information I need in one place, and I love printables I can hold in my hand and take to the parks with me. So to make things super easy, I’ve created a printable Universal Studios Japan ride height chart you can download, but if you prefer, you can also read all the details here. This post includes all the must-know ride heights, tips for families, and how to book your tickets for Universal Studios Japan in advance.

Why You Need a Universal Studios Japan Height Chart
Some theme parks are designed specifically with younger kids in mind (think Tokyo Disney Resort, where most of the rides have no height restrictions at all) but USJ is packed with rides for all ages. This is certainly the better of the two parks for adrenaline junkies, if that’s what you’re looking for!
Universal Studios Japan offers everything from gentle kids’ rides to thrill rides like Flying Dinosaur, which looks so scary even I didn’t dare to go on!

As a result, most of the rides in the Universal Studios Japan park have strict minimum height restrictions in place: there are only 6 rides in the park that have no height restrictions at all. And the minimum height requirement for the other rides start at 92cm ranging up to 132cm.
Having a Universal Studios Japan ride height chart helps you:
- Check which rides your children can go on before arriving (Meaning you can manage their disappointment at home, not in front of the ride they really wanted to go on!)
- Plan your day efficiently by knowing which of the ‘big hit’ rides your kids can go on, and that you want to ride first.
- Make the most of your visit with less stress. Because let’s face it, as fun as theme park days are, they can be stressful for us mums!

Tips for Families Visiting Universal Studios Japan
I’m guessing you already know this (or you wouldn’t be reading this article!) but knowing your kids height before you visit USJ really can make or break your day. When my Harry Potter mad son (dressed in his Harry Potter costume) was told he couldn’t ride Harry Potter’s Forbidden Journey, I could have cried with him: so I guess i’m writing this so you guys learn from my mistakes!)
- Measure your children barefoot for accuracy (I think the measurement sticks are off by 1-2cm, so this will make sure you’re not promising them rides they won’t quite meet the requirements for)
- Check out the companion rules for rides; some thrill rides require smaller kids to be accompanied by an adult, so think about which adult will ride and with whom in advance!
- Plan your day around height-appropriate rides first, then enjoy the shows and parades. We always ask our boys to choose one ride each they really don’t want to miss, and those are the rides we hit first.

OK, the build-up is finally over. To make your planning easier, I’ve designed a printable ride height chart you can take to the park. It’s fully interactive, so your kids can tick off the rides they’re tall enough for, and I’ve added space to write their height once you measure them, so everyone knows where they stand!

A Universal Studios Japan family visit is unforgettable.
