Pokemon Store Tokyo Station Shop – What To Buy and Why It’s Worth Visiting

If you’re a Pokemon fan or you’ve got Pokemon fans in the family (like us!) then the Pokemon Store at Tokyo Station is an absolute must-visit. This is the newest Pokemon store in Tokyo and though it might not be a full blown Pokemon Center, or one of the biggest Pokemon stores in Japan, the Tokyo Station Pokemon store is well worth visiting because it’s home to some of the cutest exclusive merch you’ll find anywhere, including the Station Master Pikachu plush that you can only buy here.

The Pokemon Store is easy to visit if you’re travelling via Tokyo Station (something we seem to do all the time when we’re in Tokyo!) and it’s the perfect place for a quick stop before you hop on the Shinkansen. It’s a great place for last minute souvenirs but for us, it was somewhere my two mini Pokemon fans really wanted to visit!

Where To Find The Pokemon Store Tokyo Station

Tokyo Station is HUGE – and it’s so confusing and difficult to navigate (or maybe that’s just us!) We actually had to ask for help at the information desk when looking for the Tokyo Station Pokemon Store and they pointed us in the right direction, so I thought I would share how to find the store here, to save you the same heart ache!

The Pokemon Centre is located on Tokyo Character Street, which you’ll find on the 1st basement level of the station near the Yaesu North Exit. The best way to find this is to follow the ‘Character Street’ signs which become more prevalent the closer you get.

Once you’re on Character Street (which is a very cool place to shop in its own right!) you’ll actually need to go up a small flight of stairs to reach the Pokemon Store Tokyo Station, but again, this is very clearly signposted.

As an added bonus, the Yaesu North Exit of Tokyo Station is the exit you’ll use if you’re walking to the Pokemon Centre DX and the Pokemon Cafe Tokyo (you can read my full review of our Pokemon Cafe experience here) so it’s really easy to combine these two experiences in one day.

Exclusive Merchandise: What To Buy at the Tokyo Station Pokemon Store

Pokemon Stores tend to have their own exclusive merchandise, and the plushie in the Tokyo Station Pokemon Store was one of our favourites! We ended up buying two of these (one for each boy) because they both loved him so much. Unlike in other stores this doesn’t come in smaller key chain versions: you just have this one plushie to choose from.

There is other exclusive Tokyo Station Pokemon Merchandise though: this is mostly omiyage (which is the Japanese tradition of bringing small gifts, usually sweets, back from a trip) so expect beautiful ornate boxes filled with sweets and biscuits etc.

The other thing we found that we loved, and that was unique to the Tokyo Station Pokemon Store was a coin pressing machine. This might be pretty niche, but my boys collect pressed coins when we travel, so they loved having this Tokyo Station Pokemon one to add to their collection! You’ll find this tucked away in the corner to the front left hand side of the store.

Finally there was, of course, plenty of other merch that wasn’t exclusive to this store. They had a good range of Pokemon cards and TCG accessories (both boys got some new card storage here) as well as key chains, socks, and other small gift-type souviners. The back wall of the store was filled to the brim with plushies of all sizes, so of course this was the boys favourite part of the store (I can’t tell you how many plushies we bought home from this trip! It was obscene!)

If you’re looking for a HUGE Pokemon Haul and you’re only visiting one shop then I would recommend visiting one of the larger Pokemon Centres (you can read my guide to all things Pokemon in Tokyo here) but if you’re looking for exclusive merch, visiting several Pokemon stores, or you’re going through Tokyo Station then definitely give this store a visit!

What It’s Like Inside

This is a pretty small Pokemon store, but its open layout means that it’s fairly easy to get around. We visiting in the middle of a weekday afternoon and didn’t find it too crowded, but I know that it can become packed (especially at weekends!)

Inside the Pokemon Store Tokyo Station

To say it was a relatively small store, we were pleasantly surprised by its layout and by how much merchandise there was inside: it was easy to navigate and to find what you were looking for and the whole experience was really pleasant. It was bright and colourful, and you could tell that the store is new: it has that new and shiny feel!

Our youngest is OBSESSED with Sprigatito so it was nice to see the Paldean starters as the mascots for this store (he made me take so many photos!) and you’ll definitely find some great souvenirs here.

You’ll find the queue line to the right hand side of the store, and for you TCG players (like my boys!) that’s also where you’ll find the card display: it’s on a stand to the right of the store that’s in front of the cashiers. The plushies are on the back wall of the store and the exclusive merchandise is right at the front so you can’t miss it!

Tips For Visiting With Kids

I know all kids are different, but here are some of the things we did that made visiting the Pokemon Store in Tokyo Station easier with our boys:

  • Visit on a weekday. You’ll have a much more pleasant shopping experience with room to look at things and enjoy everything. We didn’t go in on a weekend, but we did walk past and people were queuing out the door just to get in!
  • The earlier in the day you visit, the less crowded it will be too.
  • To prevent decision fatigue, we let the boys choose just one thing each. This is a great tip for parents: set a budget or an item limit before you go into any store so your kids know what to expect!
  • Allow enough time to see the rest of Character Street. There are shops themed around every manga/cartoon character you can think of, and it was a place our boys really enjoyd window shopping.

Have you visited the Pokemon Store in Tokyo Station? Do you have any other tips and hints to add? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
