Top 10 Tips For Visiting Disneyland Paris In August

There’s never a bad time of year to visit Disneyland Paris thanks to its abundance of seasonal events and different character meets and shows that go with them. Every season is different and unique, meaning that we’ve even had the best trips during the rainiest February. But Disneyland Paris in August is something special.

I will admit I write this from a place of bias, because we love Disneyland Paris, and frequently refer to it as our happy place! But that doesn’t mean we don’t have our eyes wide open to the park’s many flaws!

We know that sometimes the crowd levels in Disneyland Paris can be overwhelmingly high, and that the waiting times for the right often aren’t for the faint-hearted. So I plan on writing this from a place of balance.

Why Visit Disneyland Paris in August

Summer in Disneyland Paris doesn’t get the same hype that other seasons in the park do; Christmas and Halloween in particular are big hits with Disney fans, and having visited in every season it’s true that these are the celebrations with the best decorations. BUT the payoff is that this means the park is actually busier during Christmas and Halloween than it is in the height of the summer!

It is still busy. But perhaps not as busy as you might expect? We were certainly surprised by the crowd levels in the park at the beginning of August last year, managing to ride more than a dozen rides in a single day.

Summer in Disneyland does have its own unique perks. Some of the reasons why we love Disneyland Paris in August include:

-Extended park hours. In the summer months the park benefits from extended park opening hours. This means you’ll get more bang for your buck, with your ticket price paying for more hours in the park, giving you more time to cram in as much fun as possible!

-Special Celebrations. Disney goes all out with its summer celebrations. This year the main Disneyland Paris park is hosting a Disney Music Festival, running from April 19 to September 7, 2025. The festival celebrates Disney hits, from timeless classics to modern chart-toppers, with live concerts, dance shows, and street performances.

-Amazing weather. We’re like a family of lizards, we just love lounging in the sun. So the amazing weather at Disneyland Paris in the summer is a huge pro for us. We love spending time in Disneyland in the sun, and although some people are put off by the heat, it only enhances the experience for us. You just have to handle it right!

Ten Tips For Visiting Disneyland Paris in August

So what are my top tips for visiting Disneyland Paris in August? Here are my top ten, and if you follow these then you’ll be sure of an amazing trip!

1. Book your tickets in advance

August can be a very busy month in Disneyland Paris, with school children across Europe enjoying their summer break. Particularly at the beginning of the months, with crowd levels lower at the end of August. Book your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.

If you’re planning a Disney holiday over several days then the best way to book this is directly with Disneyland Paris via their website. If you’re staying off site and just want tickets for a day or two then we always book via Klook. These are great value, and delivered instantly, straight to your phone!

2. Stay hydrated

Disneyland Paris can be HOT in the summer. And there is very little shade to protect you from the heat. Keep drinking water throughout the day to avoid dehydration. But you don’t have to break the bank to do it! There are water fountains around the park for refilling bottles, so bring a cute Disney-themed water bottle in your backpack and keep topping up!

We LOVE these Stitch Aluminium bottles for our Disney trip – aluminium bottles tend to stay cooler for longer, so they’re the best choice for a summer trip.

If you are on a budget, you can read my other Disneyland Paris money-saving tips here.

3. Pack warm weather essentials

On the subject of the hot Parisian heat, make sure you’re prepared for this when you pack your case. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and a t shirt with sleeves to cover your shoulders and prevent burning. (Skin cancer is no joke, and just because you’re not by the beach doesn’t mean you can’t damage your skin!)

And no matter what time of year you’re visiting Disney, please pack comfortable shoes. For Disneyland Paris in August I recommend either supportive sandals or lightweight, breathable trainers. It can make or break your day!!

I love Birkenstocks for this (I hate sweaty trainers in the summer) and they’re so comfortable I can wear them all day while still looking stylish. I have the newest Big Buckle Birkenstocks in tan leather for our theme park adventures this summer.

4. Plan your day wisely

One thing we did that helped to protect us from the heat (and stop the kids from getting sweaty and grumpy) was plan our day so that we were inside, and in the air conditioning, during the hottest part of the day.

You can do this by having lunch in a restaurant, wandering in the air-conditioned shops, or watching a show. We love the ‘Mickey and his Orchestra Philharmagique’ for this: It’s a great 4D show that has a high capacity (so no queuing) and is in an air-conditioned, darkened indoor theatre. If your kids are more active, you could also run around the indoor caves and pathways in Adventureland.

Thinking of visiting Disneyland Paris in just one day? It’s totally achievable, and a great way to save money! We’ve done this before – you can read our One Day Disneyland Paris Itinerary here.

5. Make the most of the extended park hours

That the park is open so late is a huge benefit of visiting Disneyland Paris in August. But most kids will struggle to stay in the park from 8am until midnight. So, make the most of the extended park hours by going back to your hotel in the middle of the day – we always choose a hotel with a swimming pool for this reason! The kids get all the fun of Disneyland AND they get to swim in the sunshine.

The on-site Disneyland Paris hotels that have indoor pools are the Disneyland Hotel, Sequoia Lodge, and Disney Hotel New York. The Disney Newport Bay club has an outdoor pool that’s amazing for the summer and would be my on-site hotel preference in the summer for this reason.

The swimming pool in the Explorers Hotel, Paris.

In terms of off-site hotels, we LOVE the Explorers Hotel (you can read my full review here) and the Center Parks Villages Nature. Both have amazing water park set ups with slides and water features that are amazing for kids.

6. Pre-book your dining

Disney dining gets busy, and this is particularly true during peak seasons like summer. So if you want to do any character dining, premium dining, or other sit-down dining experiences that I recommend booking these in advance.

You can book dining reservations at Disneyland Paris up to 2 months in advance using the Disneyland Paris app. And you can book character dining as part of your booking to guarentee your reservation: if you know you definitely want to do this then I recommend locking this in as part of the booking process. (You can read all about our Disneyland Paris character breakfast experience here)

7. Book a Character Breakfast

The cheapest character dining experience is to book a character breakfast. The food is pretty good (although it can feel quite chaotic) but the main reason to choose a character breakfast is for the characters! You’ll get the chance to meet 6 characters who will come to your table to sign autographs and take photos while you’re tucking into your kings feast.

This is one of our top tips because it frees up so much valuable time that you won’t have to waste queuing in long lines to meet your kids favourite characters later in the day. Not having to waste all that time queuing means that the breakfast is worth every penny for us!

You can see all of the characters you can meet at the Plaza Gardens Character Breakfast at Disneyland Paris here.

8. Bring snacks!

My final tip about food (I promise i’m not completely food obsessed!) if you don’t want to bankrupt yourself is to pack plenty of snacks. These can be really expensive in Disneyland, especially if you have kids that want a snack every 15 minutes. Choose things that won’t melt in the heat like crackers and sweets rather than chocolate. Some of our favourite things to pack are popcorn, cereal bars, and nuts.

Boys eating ice cream in Disneyland Paris

We always bring snacks and drinks into the park in a backpack to save money and to occupy the boys in the long ride queues. These also mean you can free up the cash to splurge on a nice lunch and plenty of ice creams to help us to beat the heat!

9. Arrive Early

If your kids are early risers like ours then this shouldn’t be a problem! If not, then set the alarm and get to the park for opening time. The ride times and crowd levels tend to be low during this first period after opening.

If you’re staying in an on site Disneyland Paris hotel then make sure you take advantage of Extra Magic Time. This is a special perk for guests staying at Disney hotels or holding certain annual passes and allows you to enter the park an hour before everyone else. This means you’ll have a chance to enjoy select attractions and meet Disney characters with fewer crowds and I couldn’t recommend doing this more! Even if it does mean you need an afternoon swimming break later!

Finally, on days when you know the park is going to be busy (especially if you visit the park during an August weekend) you should start the day with the most popular rides in the park first. The queue times for these rides gets longer towards mid morning and tend to stay longer until early evening.

The most high-demand attractions like Peter Pan’s Flight in Fantasyland or Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland are the best places to start. And once you’ve chosen your start point, do the rides in that land to minimise the amount of unnecessary walking backwards and forwards you’ll have to do. I promise, your legs will thank you!

We still haven’t made our summer travel plans, but writing these tips has made me seriously tempted to consider another summer trip to Disneyland! Where are you travelling this summer?Do you have any more tips and hints to share about visiting Disneyland Paris in the summer? I’d love to hear them!
