If you’re lucky enough to be spending time in Tokyo then you really have to visit the city’s two Disney parks. I think they’re the best Disney Parks in the world, and DisneySea in particular is completely unique: unlike any other theme park in the world in all of the best ways.
I’ve written a lot about both of these parks and why we love them so much. And i’ve got more Tokyo Disney content coming up this month too!
But the focus of this piece won’t be on the park itself, but on what you should wear if you’re planning to visit. You see, before both of our trips I googled extensively to find inspiration for fun but practical Disney outfits. And what I found (understandably) was image upon image of petite young Japanese women in matching outfits and school uniform inspired pieces that just wouldn’t work for a 40-something mum of two.
So what should you wear? If you’re in the same boat, I thought it might be helpful to post what I actually wore on our three days in the Tokyo Disney parks on our last trip.
Here’s the breakdown of my outfits, with photos, and at the end of the piece I’ve put some top tips for what to wear to Tokyo Disney that are practical, whilst still looking good!
Day 1 – Outfit For Tokyo DisneySea

We visited the two Disney parks in mid-April (just 10 days ago, to be exact!) and the weather reached highs of 20 degrees but was much cooler in the mornings and evenings, when queuing to get into the park or for the nighttime show. So layers were key.
This is my go-to Disney outfit during the Spring/Autumn months. I know jeans and a t shirt won’t set the world alight, but it’s comfy and it works! The jeans are looser so I can wear them all day and still eat ALL the snacks.
The t shirt (and the t shirt from day two’s outfit) are from @margosprints. Not an ad, I ordered and paid for these from their Instagram shop, but I love them and they’re so comfortable.

The cardigan is an oldie but a goodie that I got from the Disney Store around 5 years ago. I swear by cross body bags for comfort and convenience, and this one was from our last trip to Tokyo Disneysea two years ago.
Finally, i’m wearing Puma Palermo trainers in turquoise. I have these in 3 colours because they’re so comfortable, and if you only take one thing from this PLEASE let it be to wear the most comfortable shoes you own, no matter how stylish or unstylish they look!
I have Adidas Gazelles that probably look more stylish than these, but the Puma Palermo are by far the most comfortable shoes I have EVER put on my feet! (You can see all the awesome colours these come in here).
Finally, just look at these sunglasses! Tokyo Disney is famed for its fun, character themed sunglasses so I bought these as soon as we arrived and wore them for everyday of our trip – love at first sight.

Day 2 – Outfit For Tokyo Disneyland
My outfit for Day 2 was inspired by Donald Duck because we were visiting during Tokyo Disneyland’s Donald’s Quacky Duck! Duck! Duck City! Event.

As I mentioned above, the t-shirt features Donald smooching up Daisy, and @margosprints designed this for me. The weather was warmer, so I paired this with a long and incredibly lightweight black skirt. I wore a pair of Uniqlo Airism culottes underneath, which prevent thigh rubbing and contain Uniqlo’s patented sweat wicking, cooling technology. I swear by these when I wear skirts and dresses on a hot day!
I wore my Uniqlo lightweight denim jacket when the weather cooled down (this is more shirt than jacket in texture), another pair of my trusty Puma Palermo trainers, and my headband is from Tokyo Disneyland for the Quack City event.

Merchandise, including Mickey ears, is so much cheaper in Japan than in other Disney parks around the world, with a pair of ears usually costing less than £10 (these were £11.50 because they were limited edition ones for a special event). So my advice would be not to pack any, and to have the fun of choosing out a new Tokyo pair when you arrive!

Day 3 – Outfit For Tokyo DisneySea
For our third day, we went back to Tokyo DisneySea. I wore my trusty jeans and Puma trainers (I hope you weren’t expecting high fashion here because you’ll be disappointed!) and I wanted to add some pattern so I wore my lightweight leopard print jacket which I picked up from TKMaxx. You’ll find a gorgeous version of this here.

My t-shirt, bag, delicious green alien dumpling ears (my favourite snack from Tokyo Disneyland) and sunglasses are all merchandise from Tokyo Disneyland. I may have gone bit mad! But it was all so affordable, so I decided to see my shopping spree as an investment in future Disney trips – I won’t have to buy pricier merch in other parks, so actually I was saving us money.

Top Tips For Choosing An Outfit For The Tokyo Disney Parks
- Think about the weather! All of my outfits are suitable for a trip in April. But in the winter the Tokyo Disney parks are freezing cold (so you’ll need a warm thermal coat and plenty of layers) while in the summer the heat and humidity can be stifling. I really recommend the Uniqlo Airism range if you’re taking a summer trip to Tokyo – I couldn’t live without it!
- Wear comfortable shoes! We walked between 25,000-30,000 steps a day in the Disney parks. Comfortable shoes, and a change of shoes for the following day, really helped with the inevitable foot and leg pain.
- Avoid wearing leggings. I know leggings are a ‘go to’ in other Disney parks, but anything too tight or too revealing is just not the done thing in Tokyo: and that includes leggings. You won’t see anyone wearing leggings as trousers anywhere in Japan (outside of the gym) so if you want to blend in then leave your leggings at home. This also applies to vests and low cut tops!
- No costumes allowed. It’s worth noting that just like in the other Disney parks, if you’re over 12 then you’re not permitted to wear character costumes in the park. Use characters as your inspiration, but don’t replicate their costumes, as you might find yourself refused entry to the park.
- Dress up a little more than you might for the American/European disney parks. I don’t mean you need to wear a dress (although plenty of people do). But you will find people look put together and put a lot of effort into their Disney outfits here. So aim for something that looks coordinated, and well put together.
- Matchy matchy! Another HUGE thing in Japan is matching outfits. You’ll find groups of friends and families all wearing matching outfits in the parks as a symbol of their friendship/love for each other. Why not adopt this by wearing the same t shirt or even ears as the people that you’re travelling with?
