Visit The Pokemon Center Tokyo DX And Pokemon Cafe (Tips, Booking and Photos 2025)

The main thing to do if you’re a pokemon fan in Tokyo? Visit the Pokemon Center Tokyo DX! This is one of 7 pokemon centers in Tokyo, but it is considered the biggest and the best.

The Pokemon Center Tokyo DX is also the Pokemon center that houses the Pokemon Cafe: eating here was something the boys considered a real highlight of their trip!

Here’s everything you need to know about visiting:

Where Is The Pokemon Center Tokyo DX?

We were expecting to see a stand alone store, but actually the Pokemon Center Tokyo DX is located in the Takashjimaya Department Store on the 5th floor. This is a huge building and I won’t lie, we were confused at first.

I’ve added a photo of the front of the department store below, so that you stand a better chance of finding it first time than we did!

There is a separate entrance and a separate lift to get to the centre which is located on the right-hand side of the building.

When you walk into this entrance you will see full wall murals of Pokemon characters, so you’ll know you’re in the right place! Get into the lift and go up to the 5th floor. As the door opens, the first thing you’ll see is a huge Snorlax statue, so you know you’re in the right place.

To the left is the Tokyo Pokemon Cafe and to the right is the Tokyo DX Pokemon Centre. You will need an advance reservation if you want to visit the Pokemon Cafe.

I’ve written a whole post about how to get a reservation at the Tokyo Pokemon Cafe here.

The full address for the Pokemon Center Tokyo DX is 髙島屋S.C.東館, 5F, 2 Chome-11-2 Nihonbashi, Chuo City, Tokyo 103-0027, Japan.

What Will You Find In The Pokemon Center Tokyo DX?

The main attraction of the Pokemon Center Tokyo DX is the shopping! This is what Pokemon centers are all about, really. There is a whole wall of plushies (ordered in alphabetical order) as well as plenty of exclusive merchandise.

Although you need a reservation to visit the Pokemon Cafe, you DON’T need a reservation to visit the Pokemon Center Tokyo DX and entry is free.

Each Tokyo Center has its own exclusive items, so its well worth searching these out.

At the entrance to the Pokemon center you’ll find a pressed coin machine, where you can get exclusive pokemon center pressed coins, and a Gachapon machine where you can get exclusive miniatures of all the dishes served in the Pokemon cafe.

The pressed coins cost 200 yen (just over £1) so an affordable gift or something to bring home.

Note: These pressed coins make great souvenirs and you’ll find the machines everywhere in Japan. The boys collected dozens of these, and it was a great way for them to remember all the amazing places they’d been.

You don’t enter and exit the Pokemon Center via the same door. So if you want these gatchapon or pressed coins then you should get them on your way in, to avoid creating a bottleneck later. However if you miss them or forget don’t worry! There’s nothing to stop you going back on yourself and re-entering the store to get your hands on the goodies!

Is It Worth Visiting The Pokemon Center Tokyo DX?

When we visited this Pokemon Center in Ginza we had a reservation at the Pokemon Cafe. And the boys loved every minute of it! So the experience was well worth it for us.

Would I visit this pokemon center if I didnt’ have a reservation for the cafe too? I wouldn’t go out of my way! This was one of 3 Pokémon Centers we ended up visiting (did I mention the boys are Pokemon mad?) and although this one was great, it didn’t stand out as the best of the best. They all seemed to sell very similar items.

The biggest Pokemon Center in Tokyo is in the Sunshine City Mall, so if you only have time to visit one Pokemon Center then I would suggest making it that one.

The statues and decorations here was great. The Video wall, interactive Pokédex, and murals for photos were all great. There was an area for pokemon gaming, but we didn’t see anyone using this when we visited.

If you’re a Pokemon fan and your in Ginza or near the Tokyo Station though? Then this is the right Pokemon center for you. And don’t miss the new Pokemon Store in Tokyo Station too, which is selling exclusive merch including a station master Pikachu plushie that’s as cute as it sounds!

But if you’re staying closer to one of the other pokemon centers then try that instead – you’ll probably still find the merchandise and cards you’re looking for!

If you are going then I REALLY RECOMMEND trying to get a reservation at the pokemon centre. The food was fun and incredibly themed, and the whole experience was perfect for Pokemon fans. We actually beat the system and paid a 3rd party to get us a reservation on our last Tokyo trip: you can read about that experience here.

How do I make a reservation at the Pokémon Café in Tokyo?

Reservations must be made in advance through the official Pokémon Café website. And this is no easy project!

New booking slots are released exactly one month before the desired visit date at 6:00 PM Japan time (which is 9am in the UK) and they book out incredibly fast, often within seconds. I highly recommend setting a reminder and being ready to book the moment reservations open!

We tried every day for 3 days before we got a booking on our first trip to Tokyo. On our second trip we couldn’t get one at all, and in desparation I paid a 3rd party to get the booking for me.

Where is the Pokémon Center DX located in Tokyo?

The Pokémon Center DX is located inside Takashimaya Nihombashi Department Store, directly connected to Nihombashi Station and a short walk from Tokyo Station. It’s on the 5th floor and shares the space with the Pokémon Café.

The full address for the Pokemon Center Tokyo DX is 髙島屋S.C.東館, 5F, 2 Chome-11-2 Nihonbashi, Chuo City, Tokyo 103-0027, Japan.

Can you visit the Pokémon Café without a reservation?

A confirmed online reservation is required to enter the Pokémon Café — even if you’re just accompanying someone. BUT! Very rarely there are cancellations available on the day, and they have a line for cancellations/walk-ins where you might get lucky and get a table. If you’re in the area anyway, it’s worth checking.

And just like all the other Pokemon Centers, you can visit the Pokémon Center DX (the shop) without a booking. So if you can’t get into the cafe, at least you can console yourself with some new cards and a plushie!

What food is available at the Pokémon Café Tokyo?

The Pokemon cafe doesn’t have the most extensive menu, but there’s something for everyone. Kids have their own special menu which has a mix of different things (including a hamburger steak and salad). The main menu features adorable, themed dishes like Pikachu curry or a Snorlax rice bowl. For dessert you can get an icecream sundae, souffle pancakes and Pokéball parfaits.

There are also limited-time seasonal items and drinks inspired by different Pokémon which change regularly. It’s very family-friendly, but I will say the meals look amazing (so fun) but taste pretty ordinary. Not bad, just not fine dining!

Is the Pokémon Center DX good for kids?

Absolutely! It’s a Pokémon fan’s dream come true — especially for kids. From giant plushies and gacha machines to exclusive merchandise and photo spots, it’s a fun (and free!) experience even if you don’t buy anything. My boys can’t walk past it without popping in to see what’s new!
