If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo, then you need to get tickets to visit teamLab Planets. teamLab Planets is one of the most talked-about immersive art experiences in Japan, and for good reason. It combines immersive art with music and movement in a way that’s truly unique.
We’ve visited twice already and are returning again this year, and one thing we’ve learned is that booking teamLab Planets tickets in advance is absolutely essential.

Where to Buy teamLab Planets Tickets
There are two main ways to buy teamLab Planets tickets, and I’m going to break these down to help you decide which will work best for you :
Official teamLab website
You can book your tickets directly via the teamLab website: it’s clean and easy to navigate. But you may find (as we did so many times) that your foreign credit/debit card won’t work on a Japanese website, which can be very frustrated.
Trusted third-party sellers (like Klook)
In our experience, booking via Klook is the easiest and most flexible option, especially if you’re already using Klook for other Japan attractions. We always use Klook to book our tickets when we travel to Japan.

Do You Need to Book teamLab Planets Tickets in Advance?
Yes, absolutely. If you have teamLab Planets on your Japan itinerary then you need to book your tickets as soon as you’re able. teamLab Planets operates on timed entry slots, and tickets frequently sell out days (sometimes weeks) in advance, particularly:
- During school holidays
- At weekends
- In spring (March–April cherry blossom season)
- In summer peak travel months
While there is sometimes limited same-day availability, we would never rely on this, especially if you’re travelling with children (who would be disappointed to be told their visiting and then not get in) or have limited time in Tokyo, so you can’t visit on a different day.
How Much Do teamLab Planets Tickets Cost?
Adults, children, and youths all pay different prices for teamLab Planets Tickets. They also operate dynamic prices, with weekend and mid-week tickets being more expensive. The later in the day you arrive, the cheaper your tickets ill be.
And if you don’t want to bound by a set arrival time, Klook also offer a Premium Pass that allows you to skip the line and arrive at any time that suits you: but you will pay a premium for this service. I’ve broken this down below:

Is teamLab Planets Worth It?
Short answer: Yes! Especially if you enjoy immersive experiences or are visiting Tokyo as a family. My husband loves modern art and visiting teamLabs Planets was on his bucket list, but we didn’t expect it to be so fun! The whole family loved every minute.
teamLab Planets is unlike a traditional museum or gallery. You walk barefoot through large-scale digital installations involving:
- Water
- Light
- Mirrors
- Sound
- Interactive elements
Last year the company opened an expansion and their new Athletics Forest area is PERFECT for kids who want to run, play, and interact with art all at the same time.

We’ve visited twice already. We went back a second time to explore the Athletics Forest, and now th kids are keen to return on our next trip (the tickets are already booked!) We found that:
- It’s engaging for both adults and children
- You don’t need prior art knowledge
- It’s a great break from theme parks and city sightseeing
- It’s indoors, so it’s perfect for all weathr and any time of year

Is teamLab Planets Suitable for Children?
Yes, teamLabs Planets is suitable for children of most ages. When we visited the first time the boys were 6 and 10. On our last trip they were 9 and 12. And they had a great time on both trips! But if you are thinking of visiting teamLabs with children, there are some practical things to know:
Good to know for families:
- You spend much of the experience barefoot, so choosing shoes that are easy to slip on and off will be a lifesaver
- Some rooms contain shallow water that you wade for, so pack shorts for both adults kids (this water may seem shallow on an adult, but feels much deeper to little ones!)
- Certain areas are dark and/or mirrored (so shorts are a better choice than skirts!) This doesn’t feel scary, more atmospheric, but if your kids are afraid of the dark this is something to be aware of.
What we loved most about teamLabs Planets is that, unlike a theme park or play area, the adults genuinely loved it as much as the kids. It’s an attraction that works on all levels and it’s one of the few Tokyo attractions that genuinely works across a wide age range.
teamLab Planets vs teamLab Borderless – Which Should You Choose?
Both are excellent, but they are very different experiences.
- teamLab Planets: linear route, shorter experience, timed entry. A more interactive area with water rooms and the new Athletics Forest
- teamLab Borderless: Less obviously child-friendly, less hands on, non-linear experience
If you’re visiting with kids or want a more fun, hands on experience then I think that teamLab Planets is the easier choice.

Frequently Asked Questions About teamLab Planets Tickets
Is teamLab Planets sold out often?
Yes, especially during peak travel periods. One our first trip to Japan we actually had 3 available dateds we could go to teamLabs Planets, and e ended up going on our second preference date, because the first date was already sold out.
Can you buy tickets on the day?
Sometimes, but availability is limited and not guaranteed. I always recommend that if you’re travelling across the world to Japan and there’s an attraction you particularly want to see, you should book it in advance!
How long does teamLab Planets take?
I read online that most visitors spend 60–90 minutes inside (when I was researching this piece) but we actually spent between 2 and 2.5 hours inside when we visited, as the boys wanted to do everything available – and so did we! For the Athletics Forest area you may also find you have to queue for some of the attractions..
Is teamLab Planets closing?
teamLab Planets has had closing dates extended in the past; but it doesn’t look set to close in 2026. Always check current availability before your trip.
Final tip
If teamLab Planets is on your Tokyo must-do list, book early and build the rest of your itinerary around it, not the other way around. TeamLab Planets is located close to Odaiba, so my advice would be to spend a day in Odaiba and incorporate this into a wider day of fun:
