If you’re visiting Tokyo and you’ve got a Harry Potter fan in the family, then you have to visit the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter experience. This attraction is pure magic! Pun absolutely intended!

We booked tickets to the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studio Tour in Tokyo for our youngest as Christmas gift, so he had a couple of months to plan his outfit (full Harry Potter robes, of course) and to build up the excitement, and it still met all of his impossibly high expectations.

We visited the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studios Tour on the very first day of our most recent Tokyo trip, and honestly? It was one of the biggest highlights for little H, who’s obsessed with all things Hogwarts. And even as a non-Harry Potter obsessed adult, I have to say that this experience was exceptional. So much to see and do, and incredible interactive elements too.

The kids have been to the Warner Bros London Studio Tour before, but Tokyo’s version still completely blew them away. It’s bigger, newer, and even more interactive, making it the perfect stop for families, film fans, or anyone who ever wished they could step inside the Great Hall. If you’ve been waiting for your letter to Hogwarts then this is your chance – you really can’t get much closer to Hogwarts than this!

About the Harry Potter Studio Tour Tokyo

Not familiar with the Warner Bros Studios Tour: The Making Of Harry Potter experience in Tokyo? Don’t worry, you’re not alone – this isn’t one of the most well known attraction in the city. Opened in 2023, the Tokyo Warner Bros Studio Tour is the newest addition to the Wizarding World experiences. It’s also the biggest!

The tour site is located in Nerima, on the former site of the Toshimaen theme park. And it is absolutely packed full of things to see and do. Some of the highlights include:

• Authentic sets from the films recreated in incredible detail
• Behind-the-scenes exhibits showing how the movies were made with interviews and footage not only from the film stars, but also from the prop masters and behind-the-scenes wizards and experts who made the magic happen.
• Interactive experiences, from broomstick flying to wand battles with makes this accessible to kids of all ages.
• Exclusive Tokyo-only sections (the Forbidden Forest here is spectacular! and was my personal highlight)

What I really loved about the Hary Potter Studios Tour (here and elsewhere) is that it’s designed as a walk-through experience — part museum, part movie magic with replica sets and experiences. This means that there are never any long queues and unlike a theme park, there are no rides. But if you just can’t spend a whole day without rides, you can take an interactive broom stick riding experience, which is a a little like a roller coaster!

But this really isn’t an experience that needs rides. We loved being able to go at our own pace, stop and take as many photos as we wanted, and move from set to set, discovering costumes, props, and film secrets along the way. We also really LOVED the restaurant, which is officially one of the best themed restaurants I’ve ever visited.

Highlights of the Tour

At first, we weren’t sure if we should visit the Harry Potter Studios tour: our time in Tokyo was pretty limited, and it wasn’t an experience all four of us had on our bucket list (we only have one Potter fan in the house!) I understand how hard it is to decide what’s a valuable use of your time and what isn’t. There’s just never enough time to see everything, especially in a city with as much to do as Tokyo! To help you to decide if the Harry Potter Studios tour is right for you, i’ve listed some of our person highlights below:

 The Great Hall

Just like the films, stepping through the doors feels epic. The anticipation of those enormous doors opening to reveal the Great Hall behind it was just so exciting. It’s the perfect introduction to the tour experience. Tokyo’s version is even grander than London’s — with incredible lighting and seasonal decor that changes throughout the year. We didn’t visit at Christmas but I would love to: I can only imagine how spectacular it looks.

 The Sets

I spend half my life roleplaying Harry Potter – so this was my little creative guys dream come true! All the places we’d been in our head we could actually walk through in real life. Wander through the Gryffindor common room, Hagrid’s hut, Diagon Alley, and the Ministry of Magic. All of these sets were beautifully detailed with attention to detail that was truly remarkable.

The new Forbidden Forest section is a standout, complete with magical creatures and special effects: there were some great interactive areas here where you could use your wand to banish or summon creatures.

 Interactive Zones

This was our kids’ favourite part: its so perfect for kids of all ages. They loved the broomstick green screen ride (yes, you can fly over Hogwarts!) and there was also an interactive Quidditch match where you could role play as a spectator: this was conducted in Japanese, but because it was mostly gestures, it was easy to follow along and understand.

 Butterbeer Break

Halfway through, stop for a Butterbeer in the outdoor area. It’s pricey but worth it for the photos and the souvenir tankard. There’s a washing station where you can wash your tankard and pop it in a plastic bag (also provided) so it’s easy to bring it home. We are still using ours now!

🍜The Themed Restaurant

Don’t sleep on the themed restaurant at the Warner Bros Studios tour: it’s just amazing! The restaurant interior is beautiful, the themed food tastes as good as it looks. This is a table service restaurant, and the staff were so kind and welcoming. I’m not going to lie, this was pretty pricey too, but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

If you’re not hungry, or your on a tight budget, just get dessert. These were the real showstoppers of the meal and worth ordering just to see the kids faces when they arrived at our table!

 The Gift Shop

A dream for fans (and a danger for parents! The money H wanted to spend in here was frankly eye watering) There’s everything from wands and robes to Tokyo-exclusive merchandise you won’t find anywhere else. We fell in love with the robes, which are so heavy and thick: such beautiful quality, and you can have them personalised with your name or initials too.

I’m not going to lie this isn’t cheap: you can get Harry Potter merchandise cheaper elsewhere. But the Tokyo exclusive merch was just impossible to resist!

 Comparing Tokyo vs London Studio Tour

If you’ve been to the London Studio Tour, you’ll find the Tokyo version familiar — but with some exciting twists. If you’re choosing between both, choose the Tokyo one: if you’ve already visited the Warner Bros Studio in London then you could probably save the day in Tokyo for something else unless you’re a die-hard Harry Potter fan.

 Our verdict: The Tokyo version feels more modern and immersive, and it’s a must-see even if you’ve already visited the London one.

Tickets must be booked in advance — and often sell out weeks ahead. You can book tickets up to 3 months in advance, and we booked them 3 months ahead (to the day!) so we were sure we could visit on our chosen date.

 Tip: Book the first time slot of the day — it’s quieter, and you’ll have more time to explore before it gets busy. We did this and we loved having the time and space to explore at our own pace.

 Is It Worth It? Our Honest Verdict

So the final question is ‘Is the Harry Potter Studios Tour worth it?’ and the answer is – Absolutely. Whether you’re a die-hard Potterhead like my boy (who had the absolute time of his life) or just tagging along for the magic like me, the Tokyo Studio Tour is a beautifully designed experience that feels fresh, cinematic, and family-friendly.

I just couldn’t believe the work and attention to detail that went into bringing the movie experience to life.

Our youngest said it was “the best day in Japan,” which pretty much sums it up. We loved the mix of nostalgia, movie-making insight, and fun interactivity — it’s the perfect day out for families visiting Tokyo.
