On our last trip to Tokyo, we decided to gift the boys experiences tailored to their interests (in lieu of more Christmas presents they didn’t need!). For our youngest, that meant a trip to the Warner Bros. Studios Tour – The Making of Harry Potter. For our oldest, who loves all things gaming and sporty, we booked to visit Red Tokyo Tower.
If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo with kids and want something a little different then I think Red Tokyo Tower should definitely be on your list: and we would go back again for the robot fighting alone!
Located right inside the base of Tokyo Tower, Red is an enormous indoor entertainment complex filled with gaming zones, simulators, VR experiences, and futuristic fun. It’s loud, colourful, and full of energy – all the things my pre-teen boys absolutely love!
We spent around 3 hours here and the boys loved every minute of it – and we adults enjoyed it just as much! In fact we saw loads of adults visiting without kids, so I think it would be a great spot for a date night or for challenging friends and family.
Tickets can be booked in advance through Klook, which I definitely recommend. It saves time at the entrance and it was cheaper to buy in advance than to buy on the day too.

What Is Red Tokyo Tower?
If you’re not already familar with it, Red Tokyo Tower is Japan’s largest e-sports and entertainment park, and it’s spread over 3 floors of the famous Tokyo Tower. It’s a mx of cutting-edge gaming, gamified sporting challenges (virtual basketball games on bouncing trampolines, for example), and fully immersive experiences such as the VR roller coaster rides. And the space itself is sleek and stylish. Think neon lights and upbeat music that lends the whole place a futuristic, modern feel.
We visited at opening time on a week day, so we found Red Tokyo Tower really quiet with no queues for any of the attractions (we’d read reviews about hour long queues) which means we found it incredibly family-friendly. While it’s aimed at gamers and tech lovers, in reality there’s something for everyone. My F1-mad husband loved the racing simulators, while the motion detectorr challenges kept our youngest occupied for ages.
It’s always worth noting that everything is easy to access and all the instructions are clearly signed in English, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to read the machines/not knowing what to do.
And because it’s all indoors, it’s a great all-weather activity too. It doesn’t matter whether you’re trying to escape the cold, the rain, or the blazing heat of the summer, you’ll have a great time at Red Tokyo Tower.
How To Book Tickets To Red Tokyo Tower
We chose to book our tickets to Red Tokyo Tower via Klook. This allowed us to easily book our tickets in advance, and in English. It made it so easy to plan our day, because we knew what time we were going into Red, and we already had our tickets as QR codes on my phone.
Ticket prices vary depending on whether you want to go on a weekday or a weekend, with weekday tickets being cheaper (that’s what we opted for) and you can also choose discounted evening entry tickets.

Highlights: What We Loved Most
There’s so much packed inside RED° Tokyo Tower that it’s almost overwhelming at first — but in the best possible way. Each floor has its own mix of attractions, from fast-paced VR sports to retro gaming nostalgia. But if you’re travelling with kids then it’s well worth checking out the height limits on your way in: both of my kids weren’t tall enough for the Sanada Yukimura VR sword-fighting attraction, and my youngest wasn’t tall enough for the racing simulators.
That didn’t mean that the boys didn’t have a great time – they could do so much and they loved every minute. But it’s worth knowing what they can and can’t go on before you arrive, to avoid disappointment.
Here are a few of our absolute favourites:
The Robot Fighting Arena
This was hands down the biggest hit with our boys! You actually get to control a real robot suit that you’re wearing and battle it out in the arena . It’s every little boys dream, and the kind of thing we were told we’d find all over Japan in the 90s! It’s loud, dramatic, and surprisingly competitive. Our youngest was grinning from ear to ear the entire time at the chance to punch his brother, and honestly, even watching was so much fun!
This one experience alone made the visit worthwhile because it’s just not something you’ll find anywhere else.
Racing Simulators and VR Sports
If your kids love video games, the VR sports and racing simulators will be a huge hit. From Formula One-style tracks to snowboarding, these games let you jump straight into the action. Everything feels futuristic, and the quality of the VR setups is next level.
We loved that the staff were friendly and quick to help (and patient with beginners!) but as i’ve said, there are height limits on those racing simulators so check the height of your kids before you arrive!
The Arcade Zone
The arcade floor is another family favourite — a mix of high-tech challenges and fun, interactive games. It’s the perfect place to compete with your kids (and possibly lose spectacularly). This is by far the best area if you’re travelling with younger kids (my youngest was 8 and small for his age, so this was the sweet spot for him).
There are also a few photo zones dotted around, including glowing corridors and neon signs, which make for great family photos.
Red Tokyo Tower Height Limits
Because making sure your kids can ride what they want to ride is important BEFORE you shell out for tickets, I’ve listed the Red Tokyo Tower height limits for different attractions below, so that you can decide if this experience will be worth it for your kids. If the attraction isn’t listed, it doesn’t have a height limit:
- Red E-Motor: Height 135cm and up.
- Var Box: Height 110cm and up. (Age restrictions also apply: Ages 7 and up.)
- Space Shuttle 2.0: Height 110cm and up. (Age restrictions also apply: Ages 7 and up.)
- Flying Cinema: Height 150cm and up. (Age restrictions also apply: Ages 7 and up.)
- Flash Racing: Height 120cm and up. (age restrictions also apply: Ages 7 and up.)
- Corps Pro: Height 110cm and up. (Age restrictions also apply: Ages 7 and up.)
- Katwalk: Height 140cm-195cm. Ages 14-60 years.
How Long To Spend At Red Tokyo Tower
I think realistically Red Toyko Tower is a half day activity, but how long you stay will depend on how long the queues are for each attraction. We didn’t have to queue for anything except the robot fighting arena, which didn’t open until lunchtime. We arrived at the 10am opening time on a Tuesday, and were one of only a couple of groups inside as a result: it got busier as time went on.
This means the boys could walk straight on to every experience/attraction, sometimes having two turns on each attraction without waiting.
We spent around 3/3.5 hours in Red Tokyo Tower in total. Without queues, it took the boys around 2 and a half hours to enjoy all the attractions. We then queued for 20 minutes for the robot fighting experience – you always have to pay extra for this. There are only 2 fighting robotos, so it’s highly likely you will have to queue for this. Even with only two groups in front of us, it took 20 minutes for the boys to get their turn. But that didn’t deter them for queueing to ride again! It’s such a fun and unique experience that you should definitely try.
When we visited, you had to buy your Robot Fighting tickets on arrival – which we did. Now, Klook are offering entry tickets with Robot Arena tickets included, which will make the process so much easier and smoother.

Is Red Tokyo Tower Worth it?
The answer to this question depends on you! If you’re travelling with gamers, kids, tech enthusiasts…..they’re going to LOVE Red Tokyo Tower! My boys enjoyed every minute and my husband (also a gamer) had a great time too, especially when he was giving free reign to ride all the racing cars.
My opinion is less positive, because I just don’t really like gaming. With the exception of Mario Karts, I find it really frustrating and (whisper it quietly so the boys don’t hear….a bit boring!) so this wasn’t my favourite attraction. But it is objectively a great place, the theming and decor are excellent and, like I’ve said, my kids LOVED it! If there are any gamers in your party, I would definitely suggest adding this to your list.
Before You Go: Other Nearby Attractions
I don’t think you’ll need to spend a whole day at the Red Tokyo Tower. As i’ve already mentioned, I would allocate half a day to visiting this attraction. Because Red Tokyo Tower is in the Tokyo Tower, I recommend combining your visit with a trip to the top of the Tokyo Tower, which is one of our favourite viewing points in the city.
